Hi fellow Dubbers,
Not sure whether this is the right place to put this thread but thought you may be able to help me with a tricky situation.
About 4wks ago, my brother-in-law bought a 'yellow' 1975 SuperBug Beetle (Rego HHK311) at Valla Spectacular NSW from a guy that was near the swap
meets area who goes by the name 'Roscoe' and lives south of Grafton NSW. In the excitement of them owning there first VW, they handed over $2K
without doing a REVS check and on the verbal agreement rego papers would be sent in the mail. Four weeks later and the rego papers still haven't come
through. After speaking to 'Roscoe' today he said he couldn't find the rego papers and he had bought it off an old lady about 6mths ago who lived
in Cronulla and he had mailed all transfer of rego forms to the RTA after he bought it. (I did think at the time it was strange someone would sell a
car without having the rego papers handy ??) Anyway...to cut a long story short, we rang the RTA today who confirmed the vehicle was still registered
in the name of female but obviously they couldn't give any other info. My brother-in-law is now left with a car which has been paid for but cannot
register under their name. Car doesn't appear to be stolen and from my understanding was last serviced by Wolfsburg Motors in Petersham.
This guy 'Roscoe' also happens to be advertising quite a few vehicles in the Club-Veedub website.
Has anyone had any dealings with this 'Roscoe' guy as it would seem he is trying to avoid transferring the cars under his name so he avoids being
treated as a 'car dealer'. Any help with sorting out this situation would be great eg do you know the previous lady owner who leaves in Cronulla as
I would at the very least need this info so we can contact the 'actual' owner.
have you got a letter of receipt from roscoe?? if so you should still be able to transfer the car to your name,if he hasnt transferred they will get him in the end, just some of my dealings with the rta over the years have had no rego papers and similar case to what you are stating

The RTA would, I'm sure, would be happy to take some money from your brother-in law - in the form of stamp duty, transfer fee and whatever else they
can think of.
If you show them a receipt, that should do, but it may be an idea to take some photos, including close-ups of the label and plates.
Cheers, Greg
When the car has been out of rego and the last Rego papaers can not be found the Seller has to provide the Buyer with a simple recipt sayin the
chassis number , engine number , plates details (if applicale) , Date of sale , sale Amount. Then the RTA will let you register it into your name as
proff you now own the vehicle.
From Dylan
car is still registered until April next year. Seller has no record of the car ever being in his name ??
some of those RTA people are now friendly ...
now that most of the business in on the internet
they have time to think...lol
aren't as abrupt as they were many years ago....lol
LEE
well if the original owner put in a notice of disposal, the RTA would know who it is supposed to own it and should still transfer it with a receipt for the sale, then send a fine to who you bought it off,and if your receipt is dated you might cop a fine for late transfer as well

good knews guys. All sorted. roscoe finally 'found' the rego papers which was in the previous owners name. He'd bought the car about 6mths earlier
(but never registered in his name) most probably to avoid paying stamp duty etc.. Car is now registered in the correct name.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
