Kit car 911, do you mean a Porera kit for a bug?

MickH - August 30th, 2010 at 05:54 PM

No I think he means a replica 911 in glass.....there was one on egay a month ago...

Kombi family - August 30th, 2010 at 06:30 PM

Thers a guy in perth that was selling the mould
911 on beetle pan
Someone from over there will know his number ... I cant find it

bajachris88 - August 30th, 2010 at 06:36 PM

that would be pretty sweet. if u find pics put it up and show us!

waveman1500 - August 30th, 2010 at 09:39 PM

I'm not sure whether they were available in Australia but the Covin was a pretty good UK kit on a Beetle pan.

This one is a Covin.

This is a real Porsche. Pretty close if you ask me!

Edit: Sorry, I just looked it up and they may have a purpose-built chassis, not a Beetle pan. They still use the Beetle transmission, engine and suspension though, although they used Type 3 suspension instead in some models and of course all kinds of engine swaps are possible.

DOM911 - August 31st, 2010 at 08:13 AM

covin did make a replica.i could import one over but too expensive.i'll just wait to one shows up for sale here. i do know that there is one in QLD if anyone knows the whereabouts its blue in colour.

Joel - August 31st, 2010 at 09:44 AM

I remember a kit in the early 90s that was a 911 cabrio body that dropped straight ona bug floor pan

thinkk it may have been called a predator?
It looked pretty close to the real thing

Sorry to detract from the thread but I could just never quite fathom why someone would want a car that looks like a porsche but sounds, handles and goes like a volkswagen, kind of an oxy moron.

Covins look the part atleast but those bloddy porreras which kept the beetle roofline with a porsche look nose and tail tacked on....

i was wanting to see more photos of the covin if u still was interested in selling

zayus - September 1st, 2010 at 10:08 PM

A 911 kit... why?

Dom, it would be cheaper, and more efficient to purchase a real 911!

empi - September 1st, 2010 at 10:13 PM

There was one at Volkspower when i worked there, the kit was called a preditor, there were advertisments in mid to late 90s aussie vw mags for a company who supplied them in Aus. would be cheaper to buy a real 911

DOM911 - September 2nd, 2010 at 10:53 AM

you all are right it would be cheaper in the long run but i love both the 911 and bugs so i suppose i want best of both worlds.

Dom,

The white 1977 911, is not a factory convertiable.

Production of the 911 convertiable didn't commence until late 1982 - early 1983.

MR930 - September 2nd, 2010 at 02:35 PM

Check insurance out before you buy one. When I had a real one it was costing $2200 yr in the country. My replica is $400 yr.

DOM911 - September 2nd, 2010 at 02:45 PM

thanks mark
i will be waiting until you or rainer decide to sell up

Fireball - September 7th, 2010 at 11:06 AM

pm sent

nicolasw - September 7th, 2010 at 12:14 PM

I want one too!!!

how much do they usually sell for?

MR930 - September 8th, 2010 at 07:36 AM

They are very rare to find in Australia. I've seen a couple of complete ones around the $20k mark. The white one in the pics was advertised for $22k when I bought it ( I paid $15k). The yellow one I bought as a shell for $5k and its probably cost $20k or more to build it.

wolfgang54 - September 8th, 2010 at 07:56 AM

unless you are building a speedster or 550s buy a real one !!!

zoofish - September 8th, 2010 at 08:35 AM

Does anyopne know where I can get hold of a 356 Speedster kit car? I've looked and found some great manufacturers in NZ, but not much info on Aus-based kit car companies.

There was a company in WA years ago that did them, but that's as much as I can remember.....memory is fading

Impulsive - September 8th, 2010 at 06:29 PM

There has also been a couple of semi completed ones on ebay over the past year...

karmannghia60 - September 8th, 2010 at 08:03 PM

Be careful with Speedster replicas on a shortened pan if unregistered. Very difficult to get them registered now.
And if you like 911 with simply mechanics (4 cyl, etc), buy a 912

Here is my RSK replica. Just came back from the paint shop
