$4k with a rwc
needs two rust spots repaired in C pillars and a dent in front guard (all are included in the rwc price)

But still......... mmmm torque :yes::tu:

type3disease - September 19th, 2010 at 08:34 PM

sorry Chris - back online...

good luck with it mate

Major - September 19th, 2010 at 08:34 PM

Chris,
The bloke who posted the fasty for sale in Geelong sent me a couple of pics the other day. He is going to re-post it on the forum. It is a 74 TLE manual, but has been converted to carbie instead of fuel injected. It looks in reasonable condition, but would need a little work for a rwc (I assume).

I was keen, but the sale of my current ride has just fell through.....I wish people would check to see if they have finance before making offers. Anyway will have to wait for it to sell before getting the fasty.

How did the one go you looked at this weekend?

If you want I can send you the details of the one in Geelong. I am sure the bloke wouldn't mind.

Cheers Paul

please do mate..always worth a look....yeh it went ok but the car was advertised with r.w.c but its old one thats not valid so i would be unable to pay stamp and change plates...it drove well but has hole in the wing under the window and one by the bump stop..which means it wont pass..not un fixable ..and a pretty poor paint job...also all internal carpets where glued to floor (not a good sign) meaning i couldnt check it properly

chris7 - September 19th, 2010 at 09:00 PM

the thing is they are asking top dollar for it aswell....i offered to pay for the roadworthy and do a deal if it passes...the guy wanted a bigger deposit and complained the r.w.c is only valid for 30 days meaing if i didnt buy he would only have to go and another one..but i couldnt see the problem because if passes he's goty a r.w.c for free even if i didnt buy the car...doesnyt seem quite right to me??? what do you think?

Didn't think the EFI had much more torque! That's the way VW engineers saw it anyway!

Main reason for it's introduction was to get around the USA pollution issues.

Don't trust ANYONE on hearsay as to the condition of a car. Make sure you see it and drive it if possible unless you want to add quite a bit onto the purchase bill. Not near the Type 3s here as you see around UK so the parts are a lot less as well when it comes to body panels. Early shape.. not many around and later ones can be extreme rust buckets, especially the 71-73 models.

Good luck with the search. One will turn up for you at a sensible price!

hmm yeah i seen that bit of data before but it never made any sense to me? as I saw somewhere? can't remember... maybe in a book somewhere that the TLE had something like 92 or 93ft/lb @2900rpm??

But driving it as a thrash car definitely was handy. lol old stock fasty smoking tires on the spot

chris7 - September 19th, 2010 at 10:25 PM

Thanks for your help guys...iam sure one will turn up...i did view the car mate had a few reservations just wanted a current r.w.c (as advertised) and was willing to pay for it..he wanted a deposit before the roadworthy was done...i wanted to do a deal once it had one..i was paying so couldnt see the problem unless they were trying to hide something..

Major - September 20th, 2010 at 09:16 AM

Chris, sounds a bit strange to me. If you don't mind me asking how much did they have on it?

Major - September 20th, 2010 at 09:19 AM

Chris, check out the car that Danny from Geelong has just posted. I would be keen if it wasn't for my current situation............you don't want to buy a VT SS supercharged V6 instead? He He.....

depending how old the rwc is, and you decided the car was what you wanted you can get around this by backdating teh sale papers to match the rwc. Vicroads still allows a certain amount of time, its either 1 month or 3 months for the transfer papers to be lodged. Dont quote me on this but this is what i did when i bought a car last year. Rules change all the time so this may not be the case anymore.

However, if the guy wont even let you pay for a rwc inspection then something must be up.
With all the rules going round these days people never know what they can and cant do when selling a vehicle. He may be under the impression he is paying for the rwc+repairs on your word that you will pay him back. try explaining it to him a few different ways and you may have some luck.

Good luck on finding a fasty you like, i got mine a few weeks ago and love it.

dogo - September 21st, 2010 at 01:29 PM

Chris, You are spot on correct about the RWC! Seems like he knows more than he's telling.

PS. Type 3 Auto's are the best IMHO.

Dave
