* [FS - VIC] 1974/75 beetle *amended)
snudge42 - September 22nd, 2010 at 01:42 AM

*NOTE* Previously listed as 1975 Superbug - thanks to all who know enough to tell me otherwise, wasn't obvious to me!

White 1974/75 1300 possibly with a 1600 engine, I'm not sure myself.

Fair condition. Minor surface rust various places (see photos for examples), door seals poor condition (replacements supplied), heating only seems to work driver's side, but unit complete. Seat covers don't hide any problems from memory.

Last full service 9/12/09: Motor to body fuel line replaced, speedo cable replaced, front hose's and bleed system replaced, fuel tank sender replaced, points replaced, brake hose's replaced, fuel gauge/tank unit. Recommended replacement of motor bearings - noisy. Est cost $1000 (basically engine rebuild I think).

Unknown kms, currently 94500 on speedo, but has probably turned over a few times. Used as a town car on weekends for past two years. Overheats and cuts out after 2 hours on freeway at 100km/hr, starts again after 15-30 minute cool down. Puff of white smoke from exhaust when started once a week, not so prominent when started a few times a week, no smoke when started daily.

Has been sitting doing nothing for past 2 months, started after about 10 seconds of turning over. Goes like the clappers when warm. Someone put the 1600 badge on, and I’m not sure if it’s actually a 1600 or 1300, maybe someone can tell me?

Currently rego until Jan 2011, so can test drive for yourself, but will not sell with RWC/rego (time/money considerations) - will remove plates upon arrival at final destination.

Check photos and ask if any questions, and I will answer best I can - I'm not an enthusiast, so don't know technical details, I just know what it’s like to drive.

$1000 or best offer. Looking to sell in the next few weeks.

And three more - I have many, if you want a photo of something specific just ask.

Note the sort of surface rust I'm talking about is highlighted in the second photo.

Volkswagen 1600 1975 Super Bug L

Hi

Your car is not a Superbug or L model, you should amend your listing on eBay as you might be accused of supplying false information.

It has a 1974 chassis number according to your rego label, so it may be a 74 model or a 74 model sold in 75.

Bargain!

1303Steve is right. An L model has a curved screen a more modern dash and strut front suspension. The spare wheel lays down flat rather than standing up inside the front lid.

What you have there is a 1300 Beetle which was the cheaper model in the range. It may have been fitted with a 1600 engine.

It's still a nice looking car though. :)

Yep, definitely a 74 Standard beetle!

Thanks 1303Steve et al - I was under the impression the wide tail lights were the simplest way to identify a superbug and ebay only had one 1975 superbug option.

I found this page online http://www.vw-resource.com/years.html

and it makes it clear I have VIN 1142751909 and eng no. AR108477 hence:

1974 (1 Aug 73 to 31 July 74)

Chassis 114,2000,001 - 114,2999,000
Engine AR 000,001 - AR 121,271 44bhp(DIN)1300

Thanks guys! I've removed the ebay listing because it was too hard to modify.

Hi

No worries glad to help, I hope I didn't sound like a smart arse.

Does your car have an aluminium plate pop riveted to the front area around the spare wheel or lock area, it should have the VIN, relevant ADRs and also a month and year stamp.
