Maybe just supply a bit more info like what your budget is, if you're after a particular model, what kind of engine NA/turbo etc.

Hi just started looking last week and saw one on carsales for $10600 it had a 1.8 Subaru turbo conversion with the Aero guards. I had 74 superbug silver with an 1835 in it and aero guards and tail about 11 years ago. I loved the guards and the look.I had nothing but trouble with the motor so I am thinking if I go a Subaru motor maybe I'll get more reliability.but I am open to suggestions or thoughts on this. Basically I have kind of got permission to get a car from the wife as long as it has character! and she thinks beetle do. So it makes sense to look at beetles.I have owned 2 before.

After looking around last night on the web. Might consider changing my mind about the motor to looking at a dub engined beetle.

Just want a nice car for weekends with the wife and 13 month old son.
That has a bit of get up and go as well.

That one was forsale on here for a while too only a few months ago.
Very nice car and been around a long time, I remember it from Valla in the early 90s.

Only thing to rememeber though is the EA motors are getting prretty old now, and are well into there 20s so some parts are starting to get abit scarce and power isnt all that great.
Even though they are turbo they make less HP and torque than an N/A EJ20 which are common as muck, every wrecker has one.

There are some good engine builders around that can build a top notch VW engine, but theres also alot of experience amongst members on here if you subaru too.

Thanks Joel

There seems to be some ok dub engines ones on the net at the moment but nothing jumping out saying buy me.
I guess I am not wanting to be the fastest. I have been down that side of things with a 300 Bhp 200sx and my hand was in my pocket all the time. I don't want that again.

At least the search has started!

Hi

Boris at Vintage has an add on his wall for that rotary powered orange Superbug with the massive holes in the bonnet. Ditch the rotor and fit a Subi.

vvwbeetle, is your name Steve by any chance, I met a guy years ago with a silver Aero bug.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Sorry my name is not Steve its Simon.

The car I have as my profile pic was mine - its was built buy a guy in bankstown can not remember his name though, he never registered it, Sold it to me just after building it. He worked on some 2ltr supertourer back then. not sure if that helps - I know he had an article done on it in a magazine back then.

After I sold the car I found out that it was stolen (Bummer) it was such a nice car - apart from the engine issues I had early on.

Hi

The guy that built your bug was named Steve, I think he has a panel shop at Moorebank now. I have a photo of your old bug somewhere, pre digital

Hey there. The one you were looking at on carsales belonged to stuart (0406603477)
Give him a call he may still have it. Don't think you would get a more well known and well built bug for the price then his.
