71 should this be a lowlight?
i was going to ask the same question
The indicators on the front dont appear original, so probably had some enhancements over the years.
its had a new front clip probably due to being in an accident....
couldn't get lowlight fronts until recently, so obviously was a while ago that it happened.
good price for an early ute and the front looks like its just had an indicator upgrade as the grill is still the early one with rounded edges and the wipers still original as later bays sweep in the other direction
Its a 69 or 70 going by the flat rear wheel arches.
71 was the first year for small stud pattern......
yeah but the side mirrors are definatelly 80's not a 71 as they have 1 year only rear arches
26.5 years ago when I brought Beasty he had low light indicators ,I upgraded to Hella aftermarket Indicators and fitted them in the most visible position. The low light mounting recesses were plated over. The Tail lights are also upgrades that replaced the original oval lights
The side mirrors are also aftermarket upgrades!
vwmad was spot on with the rear wheel arches!
I edited the description after a bloke looked at the vehicle on Saturday! I told him that it was sold to me from a car yard as a 1971 model he said ,if the chassis no. said 69 it was a 69!!!He went on to say that he had heard, some 69/70s upgraded to 71 running gear were sold as commercial vehicles, the only thing they didn't have were power brakes , which mine hasn't!!! Anyone come across a vehicle like this ?
I've got a 71 dc which has stock booster and a 69 dc which has mcyl under wheel arch , lowlight era had lots of small changes
Does your 69 dc have disc or drum front brakes?
drum but its a common upgrade to disc as long as you change m/cyl or remove residual valve from original m/cyl if it is under the arch and you should
really put a 2lb residual valve in line to stop the pistons in the calipers from sliding back out and not just clearing the disc so you have a good
pedal.
and the factory bias valve which is attached to the chassis but you can live without it
Just out of interest, where is the residual valve located? Looked in the workshop manual and couldn't see it!
Screwed into the master cylinder, a hex fitting that the brake line screws into.
Thanks, I had a look ,definitely haven't got one! But I guess that if it is genuine VW upgrade it wouldn't!
There certainly is no lack of choice for anyone looking to buy a DC at present , have counted seven including Beasty on various sites. WHAT THE !!!
I ended up re-registering for another 6 months and I am now considering fixing the area of problem rust, in order to get a Roadworthy Certificate so I can sell registered. This would mean the price would have to go up to $10,000-$10,500 at least ! Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
Does anyone have any ideas of where to get the bottom section of the front p/s doorstep & an idea of price and cost of fitting
just campers have them check the website
Thanks Klaus
no worries if you get stuck fitting them and have any q's ask away , good fit but need some mods
The rust has been cut of the doorstep and a replacement panel fitted .Any takers??? Can send photos
still for sale?......
