[WTB - QLD] split rat
micko22 - June 6th, 2011 at 01:38 PM

Hi everyone, looking for a split rat at the moment , in saying this, has anyone here had recent experience importing from the states ? aussie dollar is good and thesamba.com has some cheap buses, i'm not worried about LHD, but any traps i should be aware of, any problems with extra duty if its a panel ? thanks

waltermitty - June 6th, 2011 at 04:30 PM

Biggest trap LHD. IMHO M

Huh?...

I would recommend buying a rat here, you need to inspect. One persons idea of rat is different to anothers. Most I've seen use the term Rat to make their piece of rusty junk "appealing"

What is it you want? What do you class as Rat?.

micko22 - June 6th, 2011 at 07:31 PM

by rat i guess i mean the cheapest running split available, i really do like the old weathered look. I have previously owned a decent single cab split back in adelaide, sold it and now ten years on want another split of some kind. Looks cheaper to buy and import from USA than to buy here.

MISS VDUB - June 6th, 2011 at 07:49 PM

Hate to say it, but Rat does not mean the cheapest running Split. A true Rat generally has a preserved patina, with overhauled running gear. A true Rat Is often more mechanically sound than what appears to be a shiny restored split. Difference is the money is spent on the mechanical stuff rather than the paint, panel and bling.

This is why you could get caught out, as some people advertise dangerous rusty pieces of crap as Rats. It's not going to be cheaper buying a split overseas once you pay tax and then realize you need to spend thousands more to get it roadworthy. It's too much of a risk unless you can fly there, and check it out yourself.

What's your budget?

Give Pete a ring at Custom Vee Dub as he has a nice 67 slit panelvan for sale that is unrestored and rust free for around 18 k , it does have no motor or box but has a few spares etc
You can contact him on 07 33564356 during bussiness hours

Interesting, so what are the final plans for it? Colour? Interior?
Wheels?

ozjeff - June 12th, 2011 at 05:00 PM

Hahahhaha plans, thats it, as is pretty much, sanded back to original off white and anchor waxed, probably standand rims with hub caps. A solid bus with no rust, good mechanicals, a true ratty bus

micko22 - June 12th, 2011 at 06:48 PM
