[FS - NSW] 69 Damaged Type 3 Notch.
bitemeoz - June 9th, 2011 at 12:09 PM

Hi
I have a 69 Type 3 Notch that has run into my brick letterbox, back right corner. It has been written off by NRMA who wont fix it. It can be re regoed if it gets fixed. I get the insurance money backl and I get to keep the car. So I am after either a quote off someone to fix it (preferably as would like to keep it) (anyone know a smash repairs around the Hills Sydney that will fix it) or if someone wants to buy it as is. Ill set a price of $1000 but I have no idea what its worth. It still drives fine, has a 1600 twin solex, bullet cap wheels, new tyres 165/50 and 185/45, home made rack, venetian etc. Engine could do with a rebuild but ive been driving it for 7 years without any problems.

Cheers John

F@##$ insurance companies... mate spend the money they gave you and get it fixed... looks like a little stretch on the rack and a taill light lense...

unless I'm missing something...?

Craig S - June 9th, 2011 at 12:42 PM

I'd buy it now for that price if my wife wouldn't kill me :spin:

I'd give some of the Sydney VW shops a call and see if they can recommend someone for you. Perhaps Andrew Dodd at North Rocks, Volksbahn at Pendle Hill or Production or CBB @ Penrith. I'm sure Paul will jump on at some stage and suggest you contact RAW at Campbelltown as well, who might be able to do the work themselves.

It's hard to believe that with so little damage they were willing to write it off. More that they just couldn't be bothered.

bitemeoz - June 9th, 2011 at 03:03 PM

ok given a guy at castle hill a call, will take it up monday to have a look.
cheers for the suggestions, and no your not missing anything, it needs to be pulled 1/2 an inch, the door still closes fine.

type3disease - June 9th, 2011 at 03:17 PM

cool and there are some lenses on ebay starting at $19
(i want the shallow ones) - if I win the lot I'll donate one of the regular ones to the repair...!

Sunset Garage - June 9th, 2011 at 03:33 PM

I'd be more than willing to put my hand up for it, if you decide it's not going to work out repairing it.

I would also be happy to quote to repair it for you if you want to keep it. I have a folio of cars I've restored, VW and non VW that you can look at, and most of them have been on the big screen (Have worked on lots of cars for film & TV over the last 10 years, Currently there is a metallic purple Sandman with candy violet flames  I painted which is now a star car on 'Neighbours')

Either way, give me a ring if it doesn't work out with the smash repairer. I've sent a PM with my contact details.

Cheers, Dave

Hate to be a kill joy but if your insurance company has recorded it on the 'Repairable Write Off Register' you may have some real drama re registering it. The RTA have changed the rules so that you can no longer re-register a 'Repairable Write Off'. It is a bloody Government conspiracy to get old cars off the road and to stop re-birthing by all those dodgy characters who shall remain nameless.

Except now they have made it cheaper for them to buy at auction because theses cars can't be re-registered and they now send them legitimately overseas all repaired. Usually to somewhere in the middle east. Of course that is after they have stolen a few other cars to fix it on the cheap. Big money to be made there these days. Three houses in a row in Fairfield NSW got busted doing exactly that recently with 4wds. I think that is where mine may have ended up after it was stolen.

There are however exception to the rule for the 'Repairable Write Off Register' and these are listed on the RTA website. You should check this out first. I think personally with an old car like this the RTA won't give too hoots. Good for us VW folk. And if they do we should walk in mass to the RTA and protest. Get all the car folk together. Not just the VW folk. We need a united front.

I assumed the bit where he says it can be re-registered means he asked the question at the time - or at least I hope he did...?

Hey Dave - are you in Melbourne...?

I just delivered a beetle to the guys at Neighbours the other day... did see the pano on the back lot but no time to take a better look...

Sunset Garage - June 9th, 2011 at 04:50 PM

Hey Type3disease, No I live in Sydney but will be in Melbourne next week picking up a car & looking at a few others.

I painted the Sandman up on the Gold Coast, in an industrial estate near Warner Bros. the paint is quite a few years old, so I'm not sure what it looks like up close now. It's bound to have a few chips and scratches. I dont watch neighbours but found out it was on there from a mutual friend of the owner.

bitemeoz - June 9th, 2011 at 04:50 PM

yep when i spoke to the NRMA bloke he said they would be more than happy to reinsure it if i get it back on the road.

bitemeoz - June 9th, 2011 at 05:17 PM

From the RTA website. No worries for old cars.

All vehicles with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes or less and aged 15 years or less from the date of manufacture, that are assessed as a total loss, will now be termed "written-off", and recorded on the National Register.

L469 - June 16th, 2011 at 08:54 AM

so whats happened?

bajachris88 - June 16th, 2011 at 10:00 AM

its amazing what is deamed as write off these days... omfg!

bitemeoz - June 16th, 2011 at 10:46 AM

not looking good, got a quote to repair it which is fine and I would run with it. But spoke to the Blue slip guy and he said there are no more repairable write offs in NSW. There are exemptions which i am sure i would get but i dont know whether it is worth the hassle of getting it back on the road. Its gotta go through 2 inspections etc etc so i dont want to get it fixed only to be knocked back on something else.

Klaus - June 16th, 2011 at 01:57 PM

$500.00 :)

farquire - June 16th, 2011 at 02:03 PM

the nsw law only applies to cars up to 15 years old you can check it out here or just google it http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/written_off_vehicles/written-off_vehic...

bitemeoz - June 16th, 2011 at 02:09 PM

correct i read that as well, ill have to call them and see what the go is.

type3ute - June 16th, 2011 at 07:55 PM

I am after something to run some hillclimb and circuit races and would be interested in the notch if you decide to sell as I dont need rego. Cheers Jukka 0413302381

bitemeoz - June 17th, 2011 at 02:14 PM

going on EBAY on the weekend, unless someone wants to get it beforehand, PM me your offer. I am in Baulkham Hills if anyone wants to come for a look.

L469 - June 17th, 2011 at 03:02 PM

is it a stat write off then?

bitemeoz - June 17th, 2011 at 03:43 PM

its a write off but you would need to get authorisation to fix it, i dont think it would be an issue but i couldnt be bothered going through the process.

The laws apply to NSW light vehicles up to 15 years old, including cars, trailers, caravans and motor bikes.
What are the exempt vehicle categories?
Exempt vehicle categories include:
• High market value
• Hail damage
• Low production run
• First or last in production run or model range
• Personally imported
•• Inherited
• Owned for five years or more by the registered operator
• Registered operator is a member of a recognised enthusiasts’ club for vehicles of that type

bitemeoz - June 18th, 2011 at 07:38 AM

bump

t_tuffnut - June 25th, 2011 at 08:15 AM

Seeing as you have owned it for 7 years, you could get it fixed as it would be exempt wouldn't it?

L469 - June 25th, 2011 at 09:43 AM

you would be the only one to save the car it would seem?

swatter - July 29th, 2011 at 09:33 AM

So what is the go? Still for sale?

bitemeoz - July 29th, 2011 at 01:00 PM

still 4 sale. YES.

swatter - July 29th, 2011 at 01:16 PM
