[FS - NSW] SOLD 74 single cab ute. solid, lowered, very honest, SOLD
SlownLow - July 11th, 2011 at 01:35 PM

Unfortunately the time has come to my well documented and well known 74 single cab.
This is my daily drive, I really love to drive this ute, she starts first go every time which i need as i use her to reliably run around to see clients , and i will miss her alot, as practical as a SC is with the 9 x 5 ft tray to throw to odd box in. With 3 x kids it's just not working having a SC, so i am on the hunt for a DC or 8 Seater Bus.
She handled the trip down to Berry from Sydney last week with absolute style and her 2 Lt on the open road made the trip an complete pleasure, she pulls up hills with ease and ticks along as a daily driver.

A bit about her.
What you see is what you get, this is a honest bus, all blemishes are not hidden are and as you can see there is no rust in her, just the nice surface patina in places.
Model: 1974 SC - possibly ex military
NSW Plates: VW 74 SC
Running a strong 2 ltr with 009 and elec ignition mated to an 1800 box.
Oil temp guage and she runs at 100 degrees all day
Empi twin exhaust.
Empi short shift gearstick
Lowered on 15 ' merc rims.
Adjustable Indian Automotive front end, lowered about 4-5"
Paint is white and coming off in spots to reveal the a green/grey.
Interior is red and matches the wheels (seats will be re trimmed).
Headlining was replaced recently in white.
Front Quarter flipper windows - are better than air con
Under dash parcel tray, awesome for keeping stuff
Ratty roof rack available if you would like it.
Very nice stereo with CD/USB mp3 player.
New Heavy Duty Battery.
Rust Free Body, this is a 1974 ute that has been used, so she isn't a show car, there are some dings, however the gates are rust free as are all the sills, dog legs, treasure chest and rear tray and every other place you can think of. The drivers side floor has has a plate welded in by previous owner, so there are no holes there either.

The past 6 months Work Includes:
Steering:
- Centre pin and drag link
- Steering Coupling
- Tyre rod end

Rear Brakes:
- replaced cylinders and shoes

Fuel:
- New Fuel pouring spout

Gears:
- New gear rod Bush
- New German Rubbers
- Box has had main shaft bearing replaced

Engine:
Running Strong,
Had a head replaced in Feb (head alone was $540)

Serviced/Tuned/Oil Change this week, by very reputable VW Mechanic

FOR SALE: $9,850

New Trimming on seats, is included in the sale price of $9,850.
I am planning on red with grey/white piping or grey with red piping. (I'll wait for NEW owner to decide on the final colour, if you want to take it as is i'll take the price of the trimming off the sale price.)

This is a genuine and very reluctant sale with a good reason (I have to many kids), i love this ute and am selling for a reasonable price, much less than the love of this VW has cost me.

This is a beautiful ratty sc ute that is meant to be used and enjoyed.

You can contact me on 0405 401 636 if you want to come check her out.. Located in Haberfield NSW 2045.

Cheers
Paul

Is this the old byron hire sc?

wiseoldub - July 12th, 2011 at 07:00 PM

Yep, thats the one!!! Love that ol' girl. I'm in the same boat as paul,. If I didn't have sooo many kids, I'd still be drivin' her!!

I know this is an odd request, but how wide (diameter) is the VW emblem on the front in millimetres?

SlownLow - July 12th, 2011 at 09:45 PM

diameter across is 18cm
-will that be the deciding factor on if you buy the car???

Yes as mentioned, she is well documented on Forums, Josh was one of the lucky previous owners and can back me up on how great a ute this one is...

i have one kid and a '74 8 seater that i'm putting together....! hmmm...!

wiseoldub - July 14th, 2011 at 11:44 AM

this ute is brilliant!! used to grin from ear to ear drivin this thing! loved it, and as Paul says, really really solid!!! I had a set of BRM's ordered for it, and this was all I thought it needed as it was so great on its own! a pleasure to own, but trouble when all my kids wanted to go in it with me and I could only take 2. So I ended up with a split and a much larger debt!!!

annosL - July 14th, 2011 at 07:45 PM

Throw the kids in the back!

Ok, got the ute back from her check up/service and she's running like a dream, took her for a drive round sydney, be sad to see this one go.

Some more pics for those interested.. this ute holds it's ground with other vw's including cool splits and type 3's..
