“Ruby 70”
For sale is this much-loved and well-maintained 1970 Volkswagen 1600 deluxe notch affectionately known as Ruby. For a 41-year-old, Ruby is a real
head-turner who always loves going for a drive and has not missed a beat in the 2 + years that I have had her. She was driven most days until her
registration expired last month. She does not come with a RWC or reg., but needs very little for a RWC and is being sold cheaper bearing this in mind.
She has personalised plates “Ruby 70”. Ruby has been a fantastic car, we have shared a lot of special times, and she always puts a smile on my
face. A regretful sale (I’m 7 months pregnant and need to get a baby-friendly car), Ruby’s new owner will feel very proud to drive her.
The exterior
Ruby’s ruby red exterior was re-sprayed by the previous owner. She is in very good condition with a small dent in the front panel and a broken
driving light (sorry the photo supplied is pre-dent more up-to-date photos are to come). Ruby has been lowered for sports handling, making it easier
for her to hug the road. She has recently had new front hubs, wheel bearings, disc rotors and pads fitted.
The interior
Ruby’s black interior is in very good condition with near-new carpets, door and head liners. She has kept her original dash and parcel shelf. The
original seats are in very good condition with no tears but some UV damage on the top of the back seat near the rear parcel shelf. She comes with a
Pioneer CD stereo system.
The running gear
Ruby is powered by a rebuilt twin-port twin-carburettor engine. She comes complete with hardened valve seats, so she runs on unleaded fuel – no lead
replacement required. Her bottom end was balanced and her heads were cleaned up and flowed (receipts included for $2,200 on engine), a mild cam was
added for increased breathing/engine efficiency. With a 4-speed manual, Ruby purrs like a kitten and can get up and go when needed. Having done about
15,000 km since the engine rebuild, she has always been run on premium fuel during my ownership. Her engine has been regularly serviced and
well-maintained. Electrically, she has a silver/silver battery, which was installed in 2010, has an electric immobiliser and has had a new wiring
harness fitted.
