My 59 Ghia- SOLD
axlepressbutton - October 9th, 2011 at 09:46 AM

I'm currently in the U.S. - I've just got married, and will be moving to the U.S. permanently.

I'll be returning to Australia on 24th July for about 3 weeks and will be looking to sell my Ghia.

To be exact- it's a 59 1/2 (1st of the non low-lights but still has oval beetle fuel tank and other low light features).

It's currently lives on the Sunny Coast, Qld- near Maroochydore.

Full restoration completed about 2 years ago. I spent years collecting all original parts for the restoration, re-chromeing everything and cutting out and killing all traces of rust and replacing with new metal. Full 2 coats of POR 15 protection underneath. Did I mention that this car is clean as clean and rock solid?

It's only been driven in the dry, and stored in a garage.
Colour is VW Sierra beige.
I
The car is pretty close to standard apart from-

4" narrowed beam
CB Performance drop spindle front discs - dual cylinder brake system.
Lowered about 5" all around.
2054 Strictly Foreign Engine
44 Weber Carbs
SS Performance Tranny
Scat Short throw T Shifter
Flat4 wood rim steering wheel
Stainless wooden slat Roof Rack
Mooneye RPM Gauge
Performance hide-away ceramic exhaust system
Spax Shocks.

GHI41 Queensland plate.

Problems-

1.Cal look rear window rubber (have German rubber and new chrome aluminium strip for rear window- just couldn't find anyone man enough to fit it).

2.Rear wheel bearing case had a leak when I last parked her.
This issue I will tackle before she goes if I can get to it- depends how desperate you are to drive her.
***************************MINOR LEAK FIXED *************************
3.The car hasn't run in the year I've been away- no rego.
***************************NOW RUNNING AND REGO'd***************

Sure there is more I've forgotten, but check out the pictures.

The car is solid, fast and an absolute magnet for attention.
blah, blah, blah

Will take serious offers.
Thanks, Stuart

Was it to a guy looking at the Blue one as well ?
middle aged guy ?

Was talking to him early on sunday as i parked the razor,
he asked me what i thought & i said to him i'd be looking at your one if it was me......
Lucky person, whoever got it,
Nath

No- but I spoke to that guy for awhile and was surprised I didn't hear from him.
It was to a guy up on the Sunny Coast. He saw my car when it was in for a tune up before the run down the coast. His 356 was in the same garage for work. He has quite a collection.

Sad to see it go- it ran SO well down to Valla and back- felt like alittle fighter plane on the highway. Still, nice to have one last blast in her before selling her on.

I'm thinking seriously about looking for a notch when I get to LA. Hmmmmmmm.....
