1970 Survivor Lowlight Bus
Time has come to sell my survivor lowlight – bought this a few years ago and have brought it back to life. I have used original parts wherever
possible, seats windows etc and new bits where they were required. It’s no show bus – but is pretty cool and usable. It’s all-original except
for the wheels and exhaust system and the adjustable beam.
Why Selling : We bought an early Beetle and I only have shed space for one .
Details
Strong twin port 1600. Reliable and starts first kick.
A1 Sidewinder exhaust with J tubes (heaterboxes available)
Gearbox is smooth and easy to change.
Lowered – adjustable beam at the front and turned springplates at the rear. (drives nicely but speed humps have to be respected). Easy to return
to normal height.
Towbar
Interior
• Black and red deluxe doorcards etc with original black middle bus seat and rebuilt black lowlight seats in the front. Custom made rear storage and
sleeping area. Looks like it’s from the factory. All original floor rubber but in good nick. A few new bits to finish it off – seat base covers,
clutch brake and gearchange rubbers etc.
• Professionally made curtains on the OG rails
• Jailbars
• Period radio – not connected
• Original and complete glovebox.
• 12 volt lighter plug added (all the modcons)
Everything works – lights, washers, wipers, internal light etc.
Flipper windows in rear all operational and rust free (I replaced them) both front windows wind up and down with ease .
All rubbers serviceable – comes with new sliding door rubber and front screen.
Has all new tie rods and a few other steering bits and bobs
Pop Top Roof – all works original orange canvas with no tears and has pull put bed.
Doors and ignition all lock on the same key except for drivers door.
Exterior
It’s a survivor – original Antarctic white paint that is thin in places and has a few scrapes and scratches.
12 month old Empi Sprintstars and tyres (or if you don’t like those save some dollars and you can have the OG wheels) See the pics .
Original Steel emblem on the front (easily polished up or painted)
Unigue low profile roofrack – custom made for one of the camper companies here in Oz
Rust – all Kombis have some
The lowlights are prone to go in the nose. This old girl is very very clean for a lowie. No rust in the nose.
I had the main areas of rust professionally replaced by Brian at Unique ( a VW specialist). He replaced the rear drivers corner and battery tray and a
few other small areas on the old girl. There is still some to go if you are are pedantic – the front doors need some work and I reckon the sills
will need doing in time. Everywhere is strong and clean. Floors are all good (see pics )
The Bad
Brakes (well there not that bad, but they are the original and mighty 4 wheel drum brakes) – I have not pain enormous attention to them, as my plan
was to upgrade the front to discs.
The original horn does not work.
Depending on what you’re looking for – it ain’t all that shiny. (I love it)
The steering wheel needs pulling off and repositioning. The former owner must have replaced the steering box or something and not lined the steering
wheel up properly. (I don’t have the correct puller – and you need one for these models)
No RWC .
Registered until 12/12 this year. Happy to re register if required.
The Price - $10K negotiable depending on which wheels and tyres you want or $10.5 with 12 months Victorian rego
