[WTB - NSW] On the hunt for a squareback for the Mrs
mikinoz - January 2nd, 2012 at 07:54 PM

Hi everyone,

I am lucky to have a couple of toy cars tucked up in the shed, a '69 Sunbeam Imp and a '76 Swallowtail MK1 Golf.

Recently my wife has been badgering me to get her a retro car, so I asked for her to work out what she wants and then we can start the path to looking for it.

Long story short, about 3 months ago she settled on wanting a Squareback, preferring the early style look over the later year models.

Over the time I have hunted over eBay, carsales, and on here. Unfortunately, we started looking just after 2 great looking cars were sold from NSW to VIC.

What we are looking for is a turn key purchase, as I have enough projects that need some hard work, so really simple repairs are fine but prefer something that has been rolling restored or preferably resprayed.

Consider anything on the East Coast but will lay more for something on NSW registration. Ideally the price range will be $10-12K, but for the right car we will travel and outlay what it is worth. Engine type, lowering and wheels are not really that important, as long as they are operational and look good on the car.

I hope to uncover something that someone knows about or may be looking to sell soon.

Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat in person, we are located in the Blue Mountains.

Look forward to hearing from anyone.
Cheers,
Mick.

Still looking, nothing that has met the approval of the little lady.

If someone is sitting on something and is considering selling, pop us a PM

Hi Mate,
I don't know if you have seen this one. It is a bit over your budget, but it has been on the market for a while.

Thanks guys. This was spotted buy the little lady early on but unfortunately it's a bit overvalued for what we are looking for, but I am sure it is a great car, just can't stretch to that money.

Cheers for the extra info. I just can't stretch as I already have a 16v on ITB engine rebuild for the MK1 on the bench and a Hillman Imp with a spray job to be done in the next 12 months!!

Hi mate. I have a 69 squareback that I was selling for $2,200. If your interested we could do all the work for you and get it on the road and painted in your colour probably for around $8-9K which would leave you a bit of money to spend on lowering, wheels etc.

I went halves in the car with a mate who is a spray painter by trade and he is very picky so you would get a good job.

If you're interested you can give me a call on 0413-262-932.

This sounds pretty cool. I will give you a call when I have time - maybe over the long weekend.
