Up for sale is my '63 Aussie bug that I had imported over from Geelong to the UK in 2008. At present the car is registered and located in the the UK,
in Aldershot, Surrey, (South-East).
I am advertising it for sale here first as I thought it would be nice for it to return to OZ seeing as it was built there and plus I have the original
Australian plates so you can re-register it on the original number which is still active on the VIC roads database.
I created a readers ride thread on VZI here in the UK, so it has all the up to date pictures and work that has been carried out:
http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=513835
But here are a few up to date pictures..
Just to run through some basics....
The car is very solid, has the original unwelded floor pans which have been treated inside and out. The front beam recently had work and is top notch.
I had new king pins fitted, wheel bearings and KYB-2 shocks and adjusters welded in, so no narrowing. It can easily be put back to stock height in
minutes. But it drives very well. I have put 155/65's tyres on the front and 195/80's on the rear. It has been lowered about 1 inch all round which
gives it a streamlined look without the slammed unusable look.
As you are proberbly aware there are lots of Australian stamped parts all over the car. Also the original Aussie only Vynex headliner is in great
shape as in the original seats/door cards. The car sill bears the square weave carpet in the rear which is intact and generally good condition. At
present there are no carpets at the front.
In regards to the body and wings ect...the wings are orginal as is all the glass, lights, seals ect. There are minor rust holes a total of 3 the size
of a small coin that are very insigniciant and easily repaired, not bad for 50 years. The heater channels like the floor pan are very solid and wont
need replacing at all. The only main area on the entire car that may need attention is the bottom of the A pillar on the drivers side by the door
which is a typical place they like to rust and the bottom of the drivers door. This is because the window seal has basically perished so is allowing
water in.
The Ruby red paint is original on the dash. On the exterior there are certain panels/areas where the paint is still original and looks very good. But
the roof, bonnet and wings have been touched up to make it tidy. 45 years in the Oz sun I'm sure you know the result..
The 34hp 1200 engine is the original to the car and was recently rebuilt from the crank up and drives very well. I used original NOS German parts
during the rebuild to replace worn out parts. But alll in all 90% of the engine parts are the cars original. There is a small leak under the oil pump
and from one of the push rod tubes but it's very minor. I have the reciepts of all machined work carried out and what was done ect. I still have the
original pistons and cylinders in a box just in case they can be sympathetically be put back in the engine one day.
The car is still on a 6V system which was recently reconditioned. Every terminal and connection was cleaned, new battery ect and everything works as
it should.
Proberbly the most cherished thing about this car is that it's had just 1 owner from new with me being the second. When I got the car it was
unmolested, solid and original and still is as I haven't done a lot to it. I also have the original owners driving lisence and the address to where
this car lived in Geelong for the past 45 years along with some pictures to proove this plus the cars service history, manual and the original
warrrenty/purchase ticket.
The car has been in mentioned in the the main VW magazine over here 'Volksworld' 3 times already, to which I have kept perfect copies of.
I also have extensive pictures/videos of the car during it's time here in the UK including research into my car's history during it's time in Oz.
It has been to a lot of shows too and always turns heads. I also have 2 birth certificates from VW to verify the car's age and production date.
If your interested or would like additional pictures of certian areas or more info then PM me on here or email me at: k.truscott@hotmail.co.uk. I am
advertising the car at $6700 which works out at £4500. This price does not include shipping costs. The shipping is to be arranged seperatley by the
buyer.
Thanks,
Karl.
