[FS - QLD] 1972 Lowlight Bus Project - $400 for quick sale
Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 09:32 AM

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I have not had the time, space or funds to commit to this late lowlight beauty and hence have decided to bit the bullet and pass it on.

I originally bought it from Marcus in Brissy with all intentions of bringing her back to its former glory....but other resto's have got in the way and I don't think I'll have time to do it any time soon....don't want it to deteriorate any further.

Here are some pics from Marcus when he took the exterior back to bare metal and sanblasted the door apertures etc. It was given a coat of 1K primer but over time has absorbed some moisture and hence surface rust has appeared - this could easily be buzzed back to bare metal, treated and primed......but if I did this I dare say I wouldn't get my time back in the sale price. I paid $1K for the bus (complete minus engine, gearbox and no rear seats).

Location: Burleigh Heads
Price: $400 if picked up by sunday 5 feb
Contact: Al (0417 645 854), or al@dasrestohaus.com.au

How it looks today.....hence why I want to sell it before the surface rust gets any deeper. If someone is happy to store it for me undercover for free then I'll gladly hang onto it :)

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 11:30 AM

do you have an engine and gearbox for it and does it come with all the glass and also the dash

cheers jamie

Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 12:26 PM

Unfortunately no engine or gearbox. I gave most of my old 1700 and 1800 boxes to Dave Butler a while back, and Marcus (vassy here on avd) may have the original engine still (not sure). All glass is present except windscreen. Dash and associated components are there too.

Basically it is a complete bus without engine, gearbox windscreen or rear seats - hence the price.
Cheers

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 03:58 PM

okay thanks for that so it still has the front seats and is the car back end on stilts atm cause i live south of brisbane and just thinking of how to transport it cheers jamie

Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 05:40 PM

Jamie, being IRS the rear wheels are still on with all the suspension in tact (unlike a swing axle which obviously looses the rear wheels when gearbox is removed). Just the gearbox is not there. So it is a roller with steering. Yep original front seats are with the bus.

I have another guy keen but hasn't committed yet so whoever can front up the funds first gets the bus - I have given him the opportunity to pay me in advance since he had first dibs, but hasn't committed hence its still for sale.

Cheers
Al
I am at burleigh heads just so you know.

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 09:01 PM

okay thanks dasdubber i contacted marcus the engine is shot and the gearbox in in another car mate

does it have front and back lights by any chance ?
does it have much rust?
and if you still have it on saturday mate ill come down and grab her of you

cheers jamie

Klaus - February 1st, 2012 at 09:14 PM

shit man for $400 its a freakin bargain , still be worth it as a bare shell no interior or glass ..good luck Al

Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 09:43 PM

I think the headlights are there but not sure on rear lights....all the stuff has been boxed since I got it off Marcus.
A guy off kombiclub is seeing if he can get a trailer but still hasn't committed. First person to guarantee they will pick it up on Saturday and front up with the $400 owns it.

Yes there is some rust, yes it is definitely repairable as I wouldn't have bought it otherwise - trust me I know what to look for. Come and have a look if you are not willing to punt $400. If I don't confirm the sale by this Friday to anyone, I will keep all the associated parts as they are worth more than $400 to my business and give the shell to a mate of mine. Didn't think it would be this hard.
Cheers
Al

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 09:54 PM

yeah thats fine how bad the rust like a 50 cent coin sorry bout this i have no credit of i would ring you mate

but i will diffidently get her if no one beats me

Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 10:04 PM

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but if there was only a 50c-size piece of rust in the bus, it wouldn't be $400. Have a look at the photos above and that will give you some idea. You are welcome to come down and have a look before the weekend, otherwise I will end up taking a heap more photos and explaining in intricate detail every pro and con of this bus....neither of which I am keen to do. What you see is what you get as it has been fully stripped to bare metal previously - there is no bog hiding anything, I don't know how much more you want?

If you want the bus and want to transfer the $400 to my account (can provide details) straight away, then it will be yours ready to collect on saturday. If not (which I understand), I will chase up the other guy off kombiclub.
Al

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 10:12 PM

na thats okay mate and i no what you mean

um i would say yes mate but i get paid on friday mate and wont finish till late or i would

Dasdubber - February 1st, 2012 at 10:22 PM

No probs, give me a call on friday afternoon then. If the other guy doesn't take it, and you still want to collect it on saturday, bring along the 400 beans....then its yours. Will let you know when you call.
Cheers

jamiesc - February 1st, 2012 at 10:27 PM

will do mate thanks for the infor and everything

cheers jamie

Dasdubber - February 3rd, 2012 at 09:17 PM

Jamie, I presume since I didn't hear from you, you don't want the bus? Just need to know before it goes tomorrow.
Cheers

type3disease - February 3rd, 2012 at 09:38 PM

Al I'd assume if he can't afford credit for his phone maybe he cant afford your bus!

For 400 biscuits that's a bargain any day of the week... Cmon qld...!?!

Dasdubber - February 3rd, 2012 at 09:59 PM

Yep, I guess I keep the parts and the shell goes to a mate of mine. Ah well, I thought the price was fair but I guess not.

Craig Torrens - February 3rd, 2012 at 10:03 PM

The price was more than fair......I thought it was a bargain:tu:

cam070 - February 3rd, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Me too I am amazed no one snapped this up.

DylanTheDubber - February 3rd, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Hey Mate,

My Dads at Helensvale, Not far from South Port. He wants a kombi. I'll ask him if he will take this one. He might need a bit of help to get it back to his place tho, he dosent have a car or trailer to tow it back there.

From Dylan

DylanTheDubber - February 3rd, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Also dose it come with all the bits and peices missing from it? (except motor and gearbox)

from Dylan

Dasdubber - February 3rd, 2012 at 11:06 PM

Sorry, it was all too hard for $400. As mentioned above, the shell will be given to a mate and I'll keep the parts to use on future restos if need be as the shell has to be gone tomorrow as stated several times now.
Cheers

wiseoldub - February 4th, 2012 at 08:04 PM

if it's any consolation , i have been trying to afford this bus (as it;s just soooooo well priced) but my commitments involve 4 kids, a few loans and my 65 bullet bus , so it's been tough. You provide an amazing service Al, and a very honest, achievable, generous offer. Don't be put off by this experience, as I am sure the response is isolated. I am taking my son to bali in 2 weeks as a bonding exersize, but I wonder whether a better spent exersize would have been resto ing this bus! Wish I could have called earlier and secured this bus for all benefit to envolved parties!
an opportunity missed.

Dasdubber - February 4th, 2012 at 08:13 PM

No worries guys, no hard feelings. A good learning experience for me, and its subsequent impact on future decisions. My mate was stoked with the shell, managed to get a trailer within 1 hour of calling him (even without the heads up prior to this morning as I thought it could still be sold in time) - picked it up within 2 hours (despite living 1.5 hours away)....so all good in the end.
Al
