[FS - QLD] 1967 Flash Beetle - REDUCED to $3000 SELLING UNREGISTERED

Location; Wynnum/Manly, bayside Brisbane 4178
Contact; here or 0412 105 789, Angus

After a few false starts car is still for sale. Looking for $3000 for car as is with all parts/spare engine etc. It is unregistered but was driven regularly until late February and would need little if anything for a RWC/safety certificate. It is stored undercover under my house but takes up more room than I thought, really want it gone.

The B&W Qld plates are no longer available.

Rego; (original Vic JZY045), unregistered
Chassis; 197827234
Engine; F0421789 (in car) original F1098043 (out of car)

We have bought a new (to us) car for my wife, so the beetle is now 'surplus to requirements'. The number plates are not original to the car, but actually came from my father-in-laws '67 beetle so are about as close as you will get in QLD. I also have the original Vic plates.

It has been my daily driver for the last 3 years or so, and has been about as reliable as you can expect a 45 year-old car to be!

This is a car you could buy as-is and drive around and give it a resto when you have the time and money. I'd keep it but also have a '63 Karmann Ghia which I want to concentrate on instead.

It was owned by one family for over 30 years, before being sold to a dealer/wrecker who had it for a couple of years before I bought it. It had been off the road for about 5 years at that stage. The same family appear to be at the Melbourne address on the warranty card according to White Pages, although I have never contacted them.

With original engine installed it is a matching numbers car, chassis, body, engine, gauges wheels etc all there.

First sold on 22 May 1968, it would have been one of the later Aussie-built beetles with the introduction of the imported 1500s. More than likely the flash kit was fitted to help sell what was then the 'old model' - they were normally fitted to earlier cars.

It is a very original umolested car without being a princess. Only non-stock items are high-back seats (on standard runners), a conversion to 12 V and 1966ish F series engine with 1600 P&C. I still have the original front seats and engine plus 6v gear, so can be easily reverted to original.

Interior is quite tidy, original black seats and trim panels in very good condition. Original low-back drivers seat-back frame needs a weld repair. Rubber over-the-tunnel floor mats have some tears but are basically all there. Roof lining has some age stains but in great shape for the age.

Original sash-only front seat-belts are included, but I have fitted modern lap-sash inertia reels at the front and two lap-sash (non-inertia) to the rear.

Has a non-functional period AM radio in the dash, and a Sony radio/CD player mounted fairly discreetly under the glovebox. Speakers are in a rear-seat shelf that was built by original owners.

The car was originally Pearl White with black between the dealer-fitted flash kit side strips. It has been painted red externally at some point, which is presentable but no show car.

No rust to common areas like heater channels, A pillars etc. Some minor rust at bottom of doors and some other little bubbles on rear apron. Some odd rust under the passenger-side quarter window seal. Has all the original panels as far as I can see, although some TLC would be needed before re-painting.

Mechanically quite solid, brakes done about 12 months ago (new linings, wheel cylinder and master cylinder). Front-end in good shape. Engine starts up every time, has had 1600 P&C installed, typical VW oil leaks at the minor end of the scale. Had new flywheel seal, clutch plate, oil cooler seals and push-rod seals installed when I put the current engine in. New Bosch vacuum-advance dizzy 12 months ago. I put new tyres on when I bought it, they still have heaps of life.

There are a box of bits and bobs spares, two new window seals front and rear (allow for chrome strip), the original engine (still running but needs new seals at least. Should be re-built, had some end-float). Original low-back front seats.

I won't be responsible for breaking up the car and its original engine - matching number cars are becoming very rare. If you only want one engine, that's the one you'll get.

I've noticed (remembered) the chrome trim missing from one running board. I have this in nice shape , the clips rusted and it just fell off in the carport not long after I got it. Haven't been able to get new clips although I haven't tried too hard.

adam

I certainly won't be distraught if it doesn't sell. I'll just wheel it un under the house, you can fit a lot under a Queenslander! Can't see me getting around to it for a while though.

Car is still wet in the photos.

The damage to the bonnet is from the d***head removalist who managed to run it into his truck. Surface rust but quite fixable, no structural rust in it.

As an example of pricing options, someone asked a price without RWC/safety cert and no rego or number plates. I've said $4k to that, I'm pretty flexible with the options.

Also car has about 47000 miles showing on the clock. Based on general condition of car and mechanicals, I would say this is 147 000 miles - pretty good for a 45 year old car. Car has also just been serviced last week. The RH outer tie-rod end is the only item of note requiring repair, this would be replaced as part of attaining the safety certificate. Haven't done it as it was only noted during the recent service.

Is the guard beeding red or has it been painted???

karmann54 - February 6th, 2012 at 06:34 PM

Pumba

I had to go and have a look to make sure. It's the standard black beading that has been painted when the car was resprayed.

I don't know how old the paint is, I've been meaning to ring the original owner to see if he can recall some of its history.

However my guess is that it was the parents car, and they drove it for years. When the kids grew up and were driving, they gave it a birthday with a respray and they drove it for a while. Grandkids come along (hence the baby seat restraint centre-back which wouldn't have been there with the kids in the late 60's/70s) but when number two came along they parked it and got a bigger car. A few years later I end up with it so I'd guess the paint is a good 15+ years old. Don't think you're going to win any shows with it as is, but if you give it a polish it is quite acceptable to drive around in, and it's not peeling off anywhere.

Price Reduction;

everything with rego to August 2012 $4750

Unregistered with no plates, $3600 all spares included

karmann54 - February 14th, 2012 at 05:42 AM

I picked up the new tie-rod end from Micks the other day, I'll get that fitted and that was about the only unroadworthy thing on it. Current rego runs out on 26/2/12, but can extend for either 6 or 12 months.

Nice matching numbers car with original warranty book etc, ready to drive as is. I've reduced the price but any reasonable offer considered.

Good Honest Advert.

If Shane "Pumba" wants me to have a look at it I am happy to.

Suggest driving it up to Dubs by the Pub this Sunday (Actually Dubs by the Big Fish Tavern on the Bruce HWY) You should sell it at that price on the day.

Cheers,

David

I'd forgotten about the dubs show, will get up there if the social secretary hasn't arranged something else.

karmann54 - February 17th, 2012 at 08:45 AM

I should have the car at the Dubs show on Sunday, have to leave at about noon but plenty of time for anyone interested to look it over in the morning.

karmann54 - February 21st, 2012 at 03:36 PM

Last chance to buy with Rego, it runs out on the 26 Feb. I've decided not to renew it, I'll either sell unregistered or keep it under the house for another day, I'm happy either way.

Reduced to $3500 unregistered with all spares etc, no plates.

karmann54 - February 26th, 2012 at 05:32 PM

Car is now offered for sale unregistered only. It has been driven daily up to a couple of weeks ago, took her for a last spin today before the rego ran out.

The B&W Qld plates are no longer available.

Looking for $3250 for it unregistered, with all spares and extra (original) engine. All reasonable offers considered.

This is a good example of the last of the Aussie-built cars, with a Flash kit thrown in as well! Just hop in it and drive once re-registered, nothing needed to be done straight away. Neat and tidy inside and out.

karmann54 - April 27th, 2012 at 05:15 PM

bump, now $3000
