[No longer for sale - crashed it] (ACT) Mildy modded '66 Bug with Narrowed beam...
Ian Bugden - April 22nd, 2012 at 09:45 PM

The car is no longer for sale, I was driving home from a car lost control and hit a very large tree, writing me and the car off. I will be ok, but the car is a goner. Will upload Photos when I am feeling a little better.

Hi,

Particulars first:
Name - Ian Bugden
Location - Theodore ACT 2905
Contact details: 0415928687 (can be hard to get a hold of me) 02 62922347 (ah) - Be reasonable, I have 2 little kids or e-mail - thebugden@gmail.com

Item:
'66 Beetle
I have owned this car for the last 5 years and am reluctantly selling it as the wife says it has to go. I can see her point, I have 3 other Beetles too and this would fund thier restos.

The car is currently on Historic rego in the ACT (rego 1192 but that will change to a different number soon and will advise once done)

has the following:
- 2" narrowed front Beam with adjuster (was built by Indian automotive)
- 2.5" drop spindles (with currrrent wheel and tyre combo has a maximum height of 115mm legal in every state to my knowledge)
- 1 inner spline drop at the rear
- 177cc engine, built by Rod Penrose as his personal engine. Features, ported heads, match ported manifolds, 100 or 110 cam (neither of use remember) 36mm delortos, counterwieghted crank, 009 dizzy with 6500rpm rev limiter rotor button, 13/8 ceramic coated exhaust with Phat boy muffler. This engine puts out 85 hp at the wheels on Gas tunes Dyno.
-Fully Polished Empi 5 spoke wheels, Very Low Km,s on front 165/50/15 tyres, rears 205/65/15 about 50% worn.
- New Carpet, door trims
- Honda Prelude seats on modified VW runners. Used a heap of box section steel to make up the bases, the seats sit lower than stock seats and further back as I am 6'2"
- Locking reverse shifter
Body is in very good condition as you would expect being a Canberra car, it is straight (one small dent in bonnet very hard to see) and rust free (small rust spots on bottom of decklid though).
- paint is pretty good, does have some mark in it. It will not win a best paint trophy but looks the goods from 10' away.
Gearbox is smooth and does not make any noises.

Have tried to give a very honest description of the car, it does go hard, turns heads, sounds good, gets lots of compliments, and it is a genuine reluctant sale. I would love to keep this car but reality has set in and I would never be able to complete 4 Beetle is this lifetime.

$7950 ono

I am driving the car up to the Nationals and back if you would like to view it.

Very nice Ian, Good luck with the sale.

Ian Bugden - May 1st, 2012 at 07:27 PM

Bump, I just fitted a new tacho to it too, Specco 3 3/4" with shift light.

Ian Bugden - May 11th, 2012 at 09:34 AM

Bump,

The rego details have changed, new rego number is historic 1187. 12 months rego on the car too.

GottaSplit - May 12th, 2012 at 09:14 PM

Can you sell it with the historic plates? I am in NSW, so I would have to get it passed inspection for change of rego... could have issues with the seats if they are not engineered. Maybe other interested buyers are thinking the same? Nice beetle, I love it but it would be an added cost to have to take it over the pits.... just my thoughts anyway.

Bit of a grey area when I had to get a blue slip i didnt require an engineers certificate for the non standard seats .

this looks like a good buy im sure it will sell quick

Ian Bugden - May 14th, 2012 at 07:52 PM

Thanks for the praise guys. In terms of the historic plates, in NSW you would have to get the car inspected anyway for the tittle transfer, so is a bit of a moot point. In regards to the seats, I have done a couple of beetles in the past with the same seats and the future owners never had a drama getting the car inspected. In the past I had just used the VW bases welded directly to the bottom of the Honda seat. On this one I cut the VW bases down used a heck of a lot of box steel and flat bar and made it unboltable from the seat. In my opinion the seat frame is much stronger than VW ever thought possible.

As a side note, I have just fitted a new Master cylinder and stop light switch and replaced any suspect brake hoses. I also did a full brake bleed too.

Ian Bugden - May 21st, 2012 at 08:26 PM

Bump,

Also forgot to mention that it has a new presure plate and clucth. Pressure plate is a stage 2 and it is a gold disc clutch. New t/o bearing. Doghouse fanshroud and all tin was new when I installed the engine in my car.

Hi Ian

When and where are the nationals?
Looking for a rust free dub to bling out and the people I have chosen to do the work are in Brisbane. Would get them to look at it to see if it's a sturdy base.

Is this still for sale?

Cheers

Lisa

Ian Bugden - June 4th, 2012 at 08:33 PM

Still for sale,

Drove to Sydney for the nats, did 693km and used 58ltr's of fuel, 8.4 L/100km. Not bad for driving around Sydney on the pizza cruise (and getting lost whilst at it) and on the Highway it just purred along like a champ.

I am Negotiable too remember

DubbyFan - June 5th, 2012 at 07:39 AM

Bit of a bump for a cool car, saw this beauty at the Nats, another time, another day if only!

Thanks DubbyFan, I forgot my camera so didn't get any pics of it at the show or the cruise the night before.

Yeah i picked it up from you at a Flat Four show at some swimming pool. I have since pulled it off though as it has been on the car for 5-6 years and started to look a bit tatty. Would love to get some more off you though

bigbadbretty - August 2nd, 2012 at 12:35 PM

All in the first post bigbad $$$s, phone number, etc.,!

bigbadbretty - August 2nd, 2012 at 05:56 PM

Yeah mate, are you the one selling the car, NO, I don't think so! And Yes I did see the original post, and all the other posts. However. it doesn't tell me if it's sold and if he has dropped his price. Why waste a phone call if it's already sold. thanks anyway but I would prefer Ian to answer, not you Waltermitty
