After 3500km from Melbourne to Cairns our Shitbox Rally Vauxhall Victor is gone to a new home in NSW.
This means we've got a little space and our hands are itching for a new project. I've owned Volvo's, Simcas, Vauxhalls, Volkswagens, so I'm not
brand loyal at all, looking for an interesting project which could potentially end up as our entry into next years rally.
The car must be 1950's or 60's, manual preferably, able to sit on 100kph, relatively mechanically sound, relatively minimal rust and under $1,000
and not a Holden or Ford.
Some of the car's we've considered so far are Rover P4s, Simca Arondes, Hillman Minxs, Hillman Huskys, old Jags, but we're open to anything that
you may know of in a back shed waiting for some TLC.
Please let me know via PM or email if you know of anything unusual that is looking for a new home. Thanks!
Simca Arondes - far out
my first car!!
what was it like? I love the looks of them
I remember their adverts............"Some car, that Simca".

yep, remember them, travelled around the Flinders in one, no worse than other cars of the day, precurser to the Sigma, faster than my Dad's Standard Vanguard that he drove at that time but paled against VeeDubs!
Surely nothing can lean and wobble more than the Vauxhall Victor we had
yeah par for the course for that time, early holden's body roll got you dizzy, kid's always got carsick in the back, that's why the beetles independant suspension was a hit
mmm. Even though it's still a live axle my 67 Volvo with coils and trailing arms on the rear is a whole world more stable than that thing was!
I imagine this sold a bit over my budget but WOW it's coolin an obscure way! I had no idea the Toyota Tiaras came in a wagon

I know that Tiara. It sold for 8k I heard. There is another wagon in Melbourne but he won't sell it.
I used to have a Rover P4. It was the 110 so it had the 4 speed manual with electronic overdrive. I loved it. Drove so well. I still regret selling
it.
Very nice! I've started making a list of cars we'd be keen to do next year's rally in, the Rover P4 is right up near the top but we're interested in nearly anything mid 50's to end of 60's european, preferably with a few curves
had a minx with a 1725 hunter gt motor.......... was a heap of shit ahahaha
After many hours flicking through ancient copies of Wheels magazine we've come up with a list of cars that we would love to take on a future rally.
We know that many of these will likely be impossible in the $1k budget, but we can't help but wish
Austin A40 Farina
Austin A50/55
Borgward Isabella
Fiat 850
Goliath 1100
Hillman Husky
Hillman Minx
Hillman Super Minx
Honda Zot
Humber Super Snipe
Humber Vogue
MG Magnette
Peugeot 203
Renault Fregate
Renault 750/4CV
Renault R4
Renault Dauphine
Rover P4
Rover P5
Simca Aronde
Singer Gazelle
Skoda Octavia
Standard 8/10
Standard Vanguard (especially a beetleback!)
Toyota Tiara (especially a wagon)
Vauxhall Velox
Vauxhall Cresta
Know of one sitting in a mates back shed which deserves a chance to be back on the road?
Dude i have the most ratty mint 1954 Vangard if interested?
If it's mostly solid and won't take much to get running I'm definitely interested
been sitting in garage since the late 70s
you have pm empi
hi glad you survived your rally did watch with interest
here are a few of your car on your list on e_bay p4 vanguard and a 40 ute all at the right price hope you put another thread up for the next car good
luck cheers michael
Thanks Michael, unfortunately utes are out of the question because the ability to carry a passenger or 2 in the rear is required. I have spoken to the owner of the P4's, sounds like they are a lot worse than they appear, otherwise I would have been heading down to look at them tomorrow, I havent spotted a sub $1k Vanguard on ebay at the moment
Yeah, there are 4 or 5 P4's on ebay at the mo. a couple look to be the same owner.
I've talked to the owners of 2 of them and they are definitely too far gone rust-wise. I suppose it may be possible to buy one of the $100 ones and use it as a parts car for the green one...

Cheers Michael
Have been thinking about that one, will let you know thanks.
Wen't to see an amazing option today. Unfortunately too much of a gamble to squeeze within the event budget, but if anyone is looking for a really
unique project there are 2 Studebaker (Champion?) 4 doors from 1953/54 in the back of Just Cars this month. We looked at the $1k one, it had small
patches of rust but nothing structural, gearbox is out of the car but comes with it, needs a bit of mechanical assembly, but where else will you get a
car that cool looking for $1k?
The same guy has the '54 which runs and drives, didn't take a close look at it, but it's been converted to 12V and would be a ripper of a car at
under $5k. Really lovely guy selling so thought I'd mention them incase anyone is interested.
basically this but a tiny bit rustier:
hi..here ya go..what a beaut

Later
He's not allowed that car, it will be slow.
