Sadly we will not be using our 1965 Mercedes Fintail as a rally car in 2013 so we need to get rid of it.
Located in Ringwood Victoria it should make a very economical restoration project for someone.
Mechanically as far as we know it needs starter motor work, a fuel pump and a carbie overhaul, probably some brake work as well. Less than 150,000
miles from new and has original log book stamped to 100,000 miles.
Body wise there's rust at the front of the sills, behind the back bumper and there has been some repairs that need finishing to the spare wheel
wells, overall it's exceptionally straight and rust free.
Interior needs carpet, some TLC to the wood and reassembly.
Comes with whatever spares we have including some chrome, spare taillights (including the US spec ones fitted) a couple of spare wheels, some carbie
parts.
Missing some minor chrome trim and the bumpers (the previous owner still owes me the bumpers but I have a lead on where some may be bought)
I'd take $1k for it, or try your luck on ebay at $800 starting (no reserve), happy to answer any questions, Contact Ryan via PM.
Service history looks interesting! Is it an aus delivered car or import? At what date and where was the last stamp?
A us delivered but a UK spec I think. Last mark is just over 100,000 miles around 1978 I think, will check. Was deregistered mid 80's but driven up the road til 12 months ago reportedly.
Just grabbed the book out, it was serviced through 3 Point Motors in North Fitzroy (still exists today!)
Delivered 14 April 1965
Just took a close look at the first few stamps in the book, was first serviced at Mercedes Zurich, then in the Nederlands until 18,000 miles, then
Geneve, before being shipped to Australia, having it's first service at 3 Point Motors in September 1966. It was serviced there until 100,000 miles
in 1976, then I have a receipt for gearbox work in 1978 at 18,000 miles (2nd time around) and the last registration was in the mid 80's.
Bump. Free
So what you going to rally now
Hopefully we will be driving home a Daimler Sovereign this weekend just waiting on a quick sorting of the fuel system then we will be driving it home. Waiting until it is on the lawn before providing too many details
Look forward to the update is it the late 60's model or early 70's
Early 70's (series 2)
I thought this was a VW forum
I thought it was cars for sale not general chit chat
I thought this was "buying, selling & swapping cars", and I thought the majority of people on here were open minded enough to appreciate a car made by another German maker, which was born out by several enquiries about it from the forum.
