Hey guys. Have my eye on a new project so the notch has to be sold as I can't keep both. I've absolutely loved this car and it's been absolutely
terrific. It'll be sad to see it go but I have some other plans with a new project that will hopefully keep me very busy.
I brought the car up from Vic originally, converted to 12volt then got it blue slipped. Since then I've just had fun driving it and updating
components on it as I went along, not stuffing around with anything too much.
In summary, the details are as follows :
'65 1500S (Aussie built, twin carb special M-249 option motor)
Rego till next year
What I've done :
12v conversion
lowered couple splines front and back
new exhaust
new fuel lines
new brake hoses
new 145 tyres on front
steel 5 spoke sprint stars. 4.5" wide, correct type 3 offset, ordered from Belgium (not the cheaper more common alloy variety)
rear venetian blinds
vintage metal visor
installed original chrome body molding
rebuilt carbs
new distributor leads, spark plugs
have bought but not installed new front/rear windscreen and left/right door seals from ISP West
personalised VW1500 numberplates
The car has run brilliantly since I got it. Only issues I've encountered were with leaky fuel lines (which is why I replaced them), and a misfire I
incorrectly put down to a carb issue but ended up just being a poorly fitting distributor lead.
This car is definitely a rat. You can see some dints in the body work, scratches, surface rust etc. There are two rust holes I patched up in the rear
wheel arches, and I assume there's more rust as you should expect with any car of this age. It passed rego this year easily. Three separate mechanics
have inspected the car on the hoist since I've had it and said it's a solid car.
The interior is all original (except the new red seatbelts I put in). Seats in great condition for age. Dash is cracked in usual place. Headliner
isn't the best as it's pretty dirty and has some splits in it. All gauges work (except clock which I didn't connect up after 12v conversion), all
blinkers lights etc work as you'd expect them too after passing rego.
Pricing these sorts of cars is tricky as I'll never get back what I spent on it. However after seeing what else is on the market (or lack thereof), I
think I'm asking a reasonable price for it.
The car is being sold as is with everything you see in the picture. Wheels, flappers, old metal visor plus VW1500 number plates (plus new seals
mentioned above, and a rear venetian).
$5,500
Not many early type 3's come on the market, especially notch's. So if you've been looking for a special notch you can jump in and start enjoying
straight away, this is it.
Car is in Drummoyne/Gladesville, Sydney. Please PM me (Arran) for any questions etc.
Cheers
azzatron you have put the capital "D" back into "DEAL".
And with nice aged black and white personalised plates and nice accessories, are the plates feeless?
If so they will remain so I think with the sale of the car.
How much were the wheels?
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell. Thanks mate.
Selling the plates was a hard decision in itself! Let alone the whole car. I think the plates cost me about $90 a year. Will have to check though.
They're not the super expensive ones which was why I was so happy I was able to snap them up at the time.
The wheels were around $1,100. I could of got the cheaper allow ones, but these are steel with correct offset for type 3's and are 4.5" wide like
the originals.
Cheers
