Good morning fellow dubbers!
In a pickle and i'm stuck inbetween two frames of mind. Practical longevity Chris says save up for a Aluminium case while tight arse Chris says use
the already line-bored dual relief magnesium stock case for his new blinging bits to assemble a 2054cc turbo short block.
Online, every vw parts supplier offers magnesium cases still (from what i found), and all the vw parts mobs locally offer case machining/line boring.
Yet there are strong opinions against the reuse/refurbishment of magnesium cases which people like Gene berg and the fellas from aircooled.net dead
against it, labelling them as disposable.
What you rekon?
Would hate to build a motor and be failed by a cracked case with a short lifespan, but whats the chances?
Just bite the bullet save the coffers? Or you gotta be significantly unlucky?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.
If you're going turbo then use the Aluminium case.
Definitely Aluminium!!
Yep, if you're turboing, would definitely recommend a new aluminium case.
However, in saying that, I am aware of someone with a bone stock 1300 who turbo'd it for about seven months without any issues...
I guess it comes down to how much PSI you're running and what not...
But, if you're going to go insane, do it right the first time. Aluminium case is definitely a go.
Thanks for the honesty gents. Tight arse Chris is getting the shaft. Aluminium it is!
tight arse chris will be saving money in the long run
Agree with Craig on that one!
