Wide 5 Wheel balancing garage found in Brisbane
psimitar - February 23rd, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Wasn't sure where to post this so gonna duplicate in a few places on here.

So I have managed to find a tyre fitters that has a cone large enough to balance wide 5 steel wheels.

They are Beau Repaires @ Keperra, North west Brisbane.

Maybe try your local Beau Repaires but you HAVE to ask them to actually try and mount the wheel on the machine as I as 3 different guys over a few months give different answers. first actually measured the largest cone for me, Second told the wife flat out 'no' and the third yesterday took the old tyres off the rims and mounted the rim on the machine to confirm for me.

Afraid most of them don't even know they have cones that large so do ask them to check properly for you.

But anyone near Keperra now knows where to go :D

Also Bob Janes at coorparoo as they brought the adaptors to suit wide five wheels so I could get many early dubs done a few years back
good for the south side

Dog tyred in kallangur did it for me. Bridgestone centre in kallangur couldnt do it so i didnt pay them full price for the tyres they supplied.

Never ever thought about wide five and the balancing machines

probably had a special mounting years ago for all the different wheels shaped like the wide five..

early holden - morris - ford etc..

Good to see some places can still do them..

When I took my wide 5 beetle to Rodger Wood Logan he sent me down the lane to Keith for Wheels.
They have moved now but they were really good and cheap for decent tyres.
And they balanced for me.

Kieth Makay Tyre and Mechanical at Red Hill did all ours in the Volksrestore days and they are still around so expect they would still have the gear.

Just another on the northside for you. :)

The local tyre shop does mine, using the adapter that I made. It's just an old front brake drum, trued up and balanced, with 5 equal-weight studs.....works fine.

Cool. Well at least this thread is giving people info on where to get old VW wheels balanced :)

If you want to come to my place, I can balance them for you, I have an old Hoftmann balancer, or you can borrow my adapter plate - all for free.

Oh, if they didn't need new valves and the tyres fitting on the rim then that'd be great :)

If you bring your new valves, I can fit your tyres - another old machine that works well, ( but not your new mag wheels it will leave a mark ).

Oh cool :) Dunno as yet where to buys the valves from so shall look at that. Will the tyre fitter scratch newly painted steel rims?

Of course it will, It's newly painted!

But seriously, I have never had newly painted steel rims, but I think the very top edge would get marked - I'll try and paint a rim and see what happens!

Cool :) The insides not so much of a deal as that's painted black and easily touched up but the outer part would be harder with the tyre on :)

OK, here is the story

an old golf rim with a quick spray from a can

tyre fully inflated

So it marks ths edge of the rim - but bear in mind this is painted with a spray can. I would think a two pack or powder coated rim would stand up better.

anyhow - you get what you pay for

psimitar - March 21st, 2013 at 09:14 PM
