back end rubbers on a 72 beetle

ok greatings dub god .
ui am after the simplest way to do the rear rubbers on the swing arms on my 72.....ie do i need to take it all apart or can i do it with the wheel
off, shock off and undo the spring cover etc
many thanks and how long to do each one?

What sort of beetle?
Swing arm or IRS rear end?
And I am assuming it's the spring plate rubber bushes you are replacing.

ok i think its irs and yes its the rubbers sorry for being a bit vague its a 1600s i think not a 1303 as it doesnt have the plastic dash

they only made L's or S's around this period so i have been told. will be irs. and they came with padded and unpadded.

Someone has misinformed you, they never stopped making the old beam front swing axle rear bugs until early 1975.
Clyve, sounds like you are wanting to replace the spring plate bushings.
Only other rubbers it could be is the trailing arm pivots but the others seem more likely.
You can follow my lowering guide over in the FAQ section, but you will need to remove the bottom few guard bolts and pull the spring plates right out
of the car (torsion bars may come out with if they are rusted in) to replace the inner and outer bushings and just put them back in at the same height
if you dont want to lower or raise it.

1303s have the large CURVED windscreen...
and the spare wheel lays flat....
1976 beetles were non supers and had a flat plastic dash..
although most have been taken off by now....
but Your 1972 beetle could be a SUPERBUG ...
flat dash and windscreen and spare laying flat..
NON SUPER - flat dash and windscreen but spare tyre/wheel sits upright... [doesn't lay flat]
IRS [CV Joints] has 4 rubber boots on the rear axles - two either side...
NON IRS - swing axle - has one larger rubber boot on each axle...
