Any Tips and tricks for trimming tinware?
Lateral - April 7th, 2013 at 05:48 PM

Hi guys

Apart from the old "measure twice, cut once" tip, does anybody have some good tips and or tricks for trimming Scat/Empi tinware to fit my new motor in a 67 beetle?

Regards
Greg

Greg, get hold of some original tinware to use as a template. Surely someone can give you an original set to use for comparison. The problem I found with the piece across the back of the engine was the position of the accelerator cable was completely wrong and would foul against the body work, and the tin would get caught between the engine and gearbox. You can cut off the bits that are too long, reshape with a hammer the contours, but difficult to add metal that just isn't there! Good luck! Dave

Og tin hugs the fins way better that repro, it's not just making it fit your engine. They also are missing internal vanes that are IMO necessary.

Thanks Matt

I'm aware of the differences between them eg: Hoover bit, extra vanes etc but I don't have a genuine set of tinware so I unfortunately need to make due with what I have or can get.
