Hi all, got some brake dramas and can't find parts. Am thinking of upgrading to post 61 front drums. Discs are a complete disaster, already looked
into that and NSW roads department are in the middle of having kittens with engineers about it.
So I want to know if the backing plates of post 61 front drums will bolt up to Oval stub axles. If anyone has a post 61 backing plate, I'd appreciate
a pic of it to compare with what I have here. Thanks.
Have you tried getting the cylinders from the states Pete

I think the subs and backing plates have the same bolt pattern and should fit, also the spindle, i have a set of a 64 if you want to try them.
May by worth thinking about replacing the rears as well, otherwise there will be a miss-match.The later [F & R] brakes are wider.
The dums will fit if the brakes and backing plates get changed too. The 40hp brakes will push your wheels out nearly 10mm
Thanks guys, have looked into it and am going to upgrade. I've already got type 3 rear drums and a twin circuit master, so this is the logical
conclusion... it will stop heaps better. And the parts are less than half the price too.
Re the wider track, there's already room for that. But thanks for letting me know.
Here's a picture of my 59/60 front backing plate
I reckon you'll be alrite as don't believe the stub axle changed until the BJ beam. You will however have 40mm wide drums and shoes as these came in
1958.
Just a quick update. New drums on, bled up and shoes bedded in. And...... it stops a heck of a lot better. Tops upgrade without all manner of
conversion dramas.
I'm digging 1963 technology!
