Hey all, was hoping to put an engine in today, I have an old Holley bugspray set-up I picked up years ago. However I can't see how i can get the
accelerator cable through the normal fan shroud hole.. And connect to te carbie linkage. The manifold is in the way. The accelerator cable needs to
be 2 " to the left... (but that's where the oil cooler is!)
Help! Anyone set one of these up before? I am in the shed now and can't post pics from my phone.
You answered your own question......
" The accelerator cable needs to be 2 " to the left... (but that's where the oil cooler is!)"
You can cut the cable mount on the throttle arm of the carby and weld it back on at a slight angle towards the drivers side of the car. Then you bend
the tube that goes through the shroud into a slight half moon shape. Then re-drill the hole on the rear (Rear of car) of the fan shroud as close to
the oil cooler as you can (Helps if you have a dog house cooler). The aim is to give as little resistance as possible on the cable.
Or
Run an external cooler.....
I am not at home so I cannot post a picture for you but I have a shroud that I modifyed this way for a Bugspray.

Hey Nicko, thanks would love to see a pic, I couldn't find any on google that helped.
I was thinking of modifying the linkage, as you say, have you got the cable running between the separate manifold pipes (coming down out of the
carbie)?
No just angled slightly so instead of the cable linkage facing the rear of the car it is facing diagonally to take some of the side load off the
cable. The last thing you want is a cable that gets stuck full throttle.
I wont be home for 2 weeks so I can't get you a photo. Sorry.
Some of the manifolds actually angle slightly so that the whole carby is not paralell to the shroud. This is better as you arent chopping and welding
the throttle linkage.

Hi
Holleys are a bit of a pain in cooler weather, they tend to ice up in winter, so they idle at about 2500 rpm.
Steve
Thanks for the replies, and cheers for the picture ian. My manifold is different to that one, on mine the pipes coming down from the carbie are
seperate and there is a gap of maybe 2cm between them. The pictures on the samba link show quite a tidy tidy linkage setup bolted to the shroud, this
might be something I have to do, as the angle on the accelerator cable might be too much without a custom linkage... Hmmmm
I know these carbies have some issues, but after reading a bit about them I will still give it a shot Gotta tinker with something!! The plan is to
get a bigger and better engine with twin carbies later on... But that might be a few years away.
I'll post some pics next week, will see what solution I can find.

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses. A lot of mixed responses about this carb on the samba, but there is enough positive stuff That may sway me to persevere.
