Dellorto Filters
Bizarre - May 23rd, 2013 at 01:37 PM

I have been having the odd bit of trouble / blockages with the dual Dells

I think i have pinned it down to the fact they are not running K&N filters
They are just cheap copies.
I have oiled them.
I do this about once a year
The main problem is that they dont seem to filter.
Especially after rain it just runs like crap to the extent I have to open the carb and clean it out

If I wash my car it can play up

It rained pretty heavy here last night and I would expect it to run like rubbish - but I covered the filters with plastic bags.
No probplems - runs fine today

Hence why I am thinking filters.

They are very hard on the seals.

Do people have the same problems with K&N's?

I run a late deck lid with the four slots.
I have cut outs under the number plates and also under the "nose"

I am going to put a rain flap and see if that helps

Oh - the car lives out side 24/7

It's the design of the air cleaner bases, not the filter itself. Water runs onto the assembly and pools in the bottom cast bit of the aircleaner housing so it's only an issue when the car is parked in real heavy rain, not really when it's going. Maybe modify some plastic food containers so the water runs over the filter assembly and drips off it rather than collecting in them. Offroad guys may have some sort of solution?

Thanks.
I should also mention I am running the update spray bar and jet doctor. So the idle air inlet should be through the jet holder stack and not the base
