G'day all
I'm trying to track down an oil leak that i think may be transmission fluid, pale green in colour. The leak only occurs when the car (59 bug) is
parked on a 10 degree or greater slope, front of car down hill. After doing some investigation, on this sight & others, I have come across 3
detent plugs. Being new to the game I have never heard of them before. Can anybody tell me what they do, how to find them & how to replace
them?
Cheers
Not sure what they do but I had the same problem years ago. Plugged them up and no more leak. I just used some bolts I think with silicone to prevent
leaks. This thread might help .

Thanks , your original thread was the first I ever head about these things. It makes a lot of sense that one or more of these plugs is missing.![]()
they were an interference fit so there on the front right side of the gear box
results of Google search shows no shortage of places to buy them:

Only a few years ago they were practically unobtainable.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have a go at changing the transmission oil myself. I know to use SAE 90 Hypoid oil & not to overfill her. Can anybody
tell me where to buy the oil pump that transfers the oil from the bottle to the gearbox?
I checked this out on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh0y7f0nYXA , seems easy enough!
Make sure you can get the filler plug undone BEFORE you undo the drain plug and let all the oil out.
Many people have been caught with a stuck filler plug and an empty gearbox.

Matt.
Nice tip
