Picked up an oldschool Smiths tacho off ebay for my oval. Found some instruction on the web for it, but I'm still a little confused as to what I'm
sposed to do to hook it up right. Specifically the "pulse" wire.
Any thoughts?
Use negative earth connections.
Connect + to an ignition on fuse (blinkers, horn, wipers etc)
Connect - to earth (back of speedo etc)
Connect the loop wire to replace the wire that goes from your coil - to the distributor. (You will need to run 2 wires from
the tacho to the engine for this)
These used to be common tachos in the early 70s in Australia. I used to have one in my Beetle.
If you can call in to Picnic Point/East Hills I will show you what to do.
Wow, an oldie..
Smiths instruments were used on most english BMC -British Motor Corporation- Leyland- Morris- Austin, cars which were Positive Earth..
which was back to front to most other cars...
so, just don't look at the positive earth diagram at all... lol
cheers
