New Beetle Headlights not working
Bizarre - July 24th, 2013 at 08:50 PM

My wife has a 2008 NB and the headlight stopped working on the drivers side.

No parker, main or high beam.

I had a new headlight put in on the passenger side a few months back as #3 clipped it and broke the lens in a driving lesson.
99% sure all was OK when we got it back

Passenger side works.

Fuses are fine - but you aint going to blow 3 fuses.

Ideas??

Did they plug the wire back in when they fitted it? Stupid question but could be as simple as that. Otherwise a bad earth would stuff up all 3.

They shouldnt have touched the drivers side.

Generally speaking even on modern cars the side lights work from a single fuse and not seperate for each side like main and dip. Hence if all 3 don't work then it'll be an earth issue. Noramlly the earth point won't be far from the headlight.

I have since been told that the base that the headlight sits into can be troublesome. A reseat may fix the issue or a replace of base is in order.
I have a good auto electrician that will have a look at it for me.

Hi the only usual connection that all 3 lights use , apart from a plug would be the earth...
sounds like it didn't work when You got it back from the headlamp repairs.. I'm not sure on late VWs but all japanese cars have relays and fuses in a box under the bonnet usually near the battery... whether a plug has come loose there.. or a plug has come loose somewhere else.. maybe near the replaced headlamp..?? Heaps of plugs on new cars but they don't just come off by themselves, and are usually hard to pull off.. so unless its an earth issue... and as You said, 3 fuses wouldn't blow... see if You can see wires going from that headlamp to the main wiring loom.. maybe it was unplugged to fix the other headlamp??? and not plugged correctly back in and has come apart enough to not make contact... but could look like its plugged in...
best of luck
