Compression Test Results..
davidr - October 13th, 2013 at 04:18 PM

G'day all,

I did a compression test on my motor (71 superbug) yesterday and came up with the following.

#1 105
#2 115
#3 118
#4 130

Did the test on warm motor. Hope someone may like to give an analysis of the results.
Anything I need to be concerned about.?

Cheers,

Dave.

There are tests and there are tests

Was it a screw in tester or push in?

Whatever - 115 to say 125 is the mark for a healthy 1600

#4 seems really healthy and #1 ....well, is a bit low, but nothing to worry too much about.
"ideally" they should be within 5lbs of each other......... but .................

Have a read here

If it is driving fine i wouldnt worry, just keep an eye on things

Thanks mate,

Screw in tester.

There was probably 10-15 mins by the time I got from #1 to #4. Could that be a factor.?

Cheers.

Did you do the test with a wide open throttle as well? As doing it with the throttle closed can affect the reading.

you need to check you tappet gaps and then retest cos no1 is quite low compared to the others. generally you want them to be within 10% of each other. More than this and altho engine will run it won't be as smooth as it should be.

If no1 doesn't come up after tappets then means either worn valves or piston rings. Fine for now but one of them is getting near rejuvenation time.

Also do the test with ALL spark plugs removed to allow the motor to spin quickly.:tu:
