oil pressure problems
bugzla - November 24th, 2013 at 07:25 PM

hey guys got something weird happening my oils pressure last week went through the roof then today has dropped on the guage now this is the weird thing when it goes from 20 to 25 for a slight second on a flicker on the guage the idle drops a little as if the engine comes under load

any body got a clue what might be the problem

cheers
stevo

Sticking relief valve maybe?

bugzla - November 24th, 2013 at 08:50 PM

hmm thought that as well but it just fell out when I undid the screw

bugzla - November 24th, 2013 at 09:07 PM

plus the oil temp dropped as well

double check with a different gauge, mechanical one directly on the engine.

bugzla - November 24th, 2013 at 10:47 PM

was going to buy another gauge tomorrow and see what happens

bugzla - November 25th, 2013 at 08:43 PM

okay I opted not to buy the gauge only because of the rpm difference when it rises 5 psi the motor loads which cant be gauge problems weird as if it keeps up tomorrow ill have to buy the gauge

matberry - November 25th, 2013 at 09:04 PM

Yeah, try a mechanical gauge to confirm. Maybe it's electrical???

vlad01 - November 25th, 2013 at 09:18 PM

nearly always is.

maybe a bearing problem, causing it to block an oil gallery (or close up the tolerances) and increase the pressure............the engine load is it trying to seize. Hopefully I'm wrong though !

im thinking you might be right craig ill start it up tomorrow and see how I go ill hook up a gauge if it keeps going that way but I think craig might be on top of it :(

yeah.... or that.

Also but unlikely is the shaft intermittantly spinning in the oil pump gear, the rpm drop is an odd one, is it very many rpm?

bugzla - November 26th, 2013 at 02:55 AM

with out having a tach on board around 100-250 rpm, wow the oil pump I thought if it was buggered it was buggered never heard of them spinning on the shafts but when you think of it, it's possible just filled it full of oil doh ill check it as well when I have the time thanks guys for your help.
