I have put a serpentine belt setup on the car but I can't get the top pulley to stay tight.
On a stock set up there is a notch in the pulley you can lock against the alternator housing.
Not sure how I am suppose to hold it right to tighten.
Barry
Just the start of your problems IMO
I agree with Mat...WTF did you put that on for !
i guess this is another one of those "that will do" designs.
So what other problems do these belt upgrades have? I thought they were suppose to be heaps better than v belt?
WOFM
Keyway on pulley flogged out
Key itself not too healthy
Hopefully I haven't damaged the shaft.
Absolute rubbish.
Yep.....I'm sure Ive told you that before
New key and stock set up back on
Even stock bottom pulley
All good and a lesson learnt
PM sent Barry, but after reading the thread, you may as well post my PM.
I have experienced very much the same problem....fixed it by machining the centre out and pressed in centre from the steel pulley...no problem ever since...
I only wish I had your workshop.
Still. You pay your money- you expect it to work.
FFS it doesn't have Empi on it.
This thing was only 500kms old

Hi
After giving up trying to find a decent German steel pulley I used a billet one on my sons bug like the one above, its very well made but uses odd
size shims so make sure you buy some spares.
Steve
Hi Barry, this is all what it takes to fix it...
hah!
Now your just showing off!
Barry,
looking at your first post, all you are saying is that you cant hold the pulley to tighten it. Put socket and bar on the fan (firewall side) nut and
then go for it on the outer (alternator) bolt as you are working the two against each another.
Kev
P.S. Just thought, you have sold the fricken thing now
