Oil Gallery Plug

My 77 camper 2 litre spat out a little plug behing the flywheel and dumped all its oil.
Anyone come accross this before?
Normal remedy?
Any advice welcome.
Bottom lhs of photo shows the culprit.

Remove it, tap and use screw in plug...

That one is very difficult to repair, just behind where the plug was is the fuel pump pushrod location. The pushrod runs in a brass sleeve thats pressed into the case, you can see it blocking 1/2 the hole. So to repair you can only work in the alloy before the guide. if you put a hole into the tube the only way to fix it is to split the case which can turn into a rebuild.....
The other problem is any shavings that get in go directly to the lifters on that side.

Intending to split the cases anyway.
Is the brass sleeve simple to remove and replace to allow me to tap and plug the offending hole?

I have cut down a 3/8 npt tap so you can start it in a shallow hole, i just removed the lead, works perfectly. just a bit harder to start.

Yes, but a proper drift machined to suit to give some protection to it dimensions is strongly recommended. As Shayne suggested is probable better unless your deleting the mechanical pump. It does get involved as to plugging the correct gallery if removing the guide tube permanently.
