I am rebuilding a 2ltr type 4 engine and have a problem that I have no answer for.
Area is crankshaft assembly.
Problem is.
Timing gear on the crank has 28 teeth and is approx 76mm OD but has no position indicator marks to line up the cam gear.
My solution was get a new gear and work out the position off the new gear and all should be good.
Wrong,,,,,
The new gear only has 25 teeth and only 70mm OD.
What the.
Obviously the 70mm gear will not mesh with the cam gear as it is too small in dia.
Anyone any ideas or had this problem?
HELP before I go nuts.
Cheers Ian
The new gear is for a type 1 motor, not a type 4.....so that's your problem !
Place your type 4 gear on a table with the chamfer side facing down. Position the key way slot in the 12 oclock position. At the 6 o'clock position
(opposite the keyway in a straight line) you will see a valley in the gears (bottom of the tooth).....now move one valley over to the left (towards 7
oclock) and that is where the dot on the cam should be placed.
send me your email and I can send you a pic.
