Hi , just working on my 73 L bug and trying to put it
on jack stands.Where is the safest and best spot ?
Need both stands on rear end. Will need to put front on jack stands later.

If it's wrong then it makes two of us!!

If you go to the other side of the torsion bar cap it won't compress your spring plate rubbers unnecessarily, saying that I put mine there for years until I seen what the rubbers looked like underneath..

Yep wrong, you need it on the torsion tube on the inside of where it is now.

Where it is now is rubber mounted so you could get movement or bend something

But 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Or as Henry would say "If it's not right...it's wrong".

That's a good way to bend the spring plates.

I didn't intend to imply that I was correct, more that they weren't alone in their choice for locating the stands ....... However, upon review and having looked at the photo again on my laptop rather than the phone I'm delighted to note that I have been following the approved technique!!!! Sometimes I do get it right on my own!!!!

You can be comfortable with the direction when a couple of the walking, talking, VW living and breathing human manuals are in agreement ;)

Another good spot in the above photo is if you were to bring the stand back a bit towards the rear of the car, there is an area with a solid protrusion just before the spring plate starts
