HiI have a 1971 beetle s 1600
I would like to know what my vin numbers mean
1112 778 676
is that including the paint code?
Thankyou
Number seems correct for 1971 Beetle. The VIN is stamped in the chassis under the back seat in the centre of car... that IS the ACTUAL number,
rather than what may be on the reg. label, or compliance plate... The same no. should appear on it, the little aluminium plate inside the front
boot.
We think the first 1 means "Type 1", the second 1 means "Beetle sedan" (as opposed to K-Ghia, Convertible etc.). The third 1 is the last digit of
the Model Year, i.e. built between Aug. 1970 to July 1971 presumably (month and year should be shown on the comp. plate too). The remaining digits
starting with 2, are just a serial number.
The paint code should be on a sticker near the front bonnet lock or spare tire...
There are several real S & L model Superbug experts here, so they will no doubt correct / add to the details if need be. [There may also be a1300 model Standard beetle from 1971 that looks similar.]
Hi Yes I have seen the sticker ,it states its Antarctica White
but shows no numbers to the paint , as there are many different types of that named paint
Graeme
There is only one Antarctica White

look behind the spare wheel for the ALLOY plate and compare the number to whats under the rear seat on the tunnel
Have a look at Holts Dupli-Color for touch up spray cans and stone chip brush. Colour Number: CLR911 ....(Yes, it was a Porsche 911 colour at one
stage.)
This colour became a European DIN standard for off-white/ivory for about x10 manufacturers for many years.
It had several different names depending upon the brand of car - but the same colour formula.
That's an Australian colour. Would have also been on Datsuns and Volvos.
