Hi out there...anybody know who repairs or sells a starter for a bay with two litre box?

Most auto elects should be able to repair them

What's wrong with it? Could just be a worn bellhousing bush.

the solinoid doesn't seem to be working...starting took a few attempts until it finally wouldn't trigger the starter at all...only option i've found so far is $350 for a recondition one...oh well...useless without it

Seems to be the problem with most of the starters I have seen

Yes, it can be a bugger to change if the motor is in

But it is $10 instead of $350.
Bet you it has never been changed

But if solenoid doesn't engage - just dead when key turned. This could be problem.

A bushless starter also fixes the problem.

You should also check for 12v at the solenoid. The ign switch takes a fair bit of current and the start contact wears from electrical arcing over the years to the point it can no longer carry enough juice to power the solenoid.

$350 is also a joke for a recon. All a recon entails is new/overhauled solenoid, new rear bearing and new brushes. Did my Corolla starter for under $50 :)

When you get the shits with the old vw starter there is a guy on the manxclub that makes adapters for a subaru starter to fit, they are a really good product and a lot easier to get bits for, Manxiberty is his name. Or Steelart.com.au is his site.

Sure he can find a solenoid if that's broken. Rest is very straightforward. Good luck :)

I was gonna say a cranky kit is less than a reco VW starter and works 100x better.

Paul is a member on here too, can't remember what his handle is though.
