Ive just gotton hold of a splitty gbox
(to go into my 62 beetle) problem is it has no brake drums
how do i tell if it is a big nut or other type (36 or 46 mm)
can I fit type 1 brakes if I fit backing plates and all
does anyone have some spare drums lying around?

Does the tranny still have the reduction boxes attached? The big nut/small nut distinction refers to the reduction boxes rather than the tranny...
If no reductions then your beetle axles will bolt up to the tranny. You have to fit the beetle nose cone and flip the ring and pinion.
If this is the one you want to put red boxes in (?) then a normal beetle drum will fit the early 36mm red box (36mmm cos it has a 36mm nut). The
later boxes have a 46mm nut and you need the 64-67
splitbus drums to suit (splines are bigger on this box).

the larger nut gearboxes have the larger splines and the 36 mm nut wont fit onto it.
Are u making an Off Roader. ??
yes it is a reduction box with the reduction boxes still fitted
all the brakes are still there just the drums are missing
this is the one I'm hoping to put into the 62 beetle off roader/kommanduerwagen
