Ignition barrel removal
ancientbugger - May 27th, 2014 at 09:51 AM

This should be pretty simple but not having done it previously in a 1303 could someone give me a step by step procedure for removing the ignition barrel complete as my ignition switch appears to have an erratic habit of either starting or not with contact only now and then appearing to be made as can be seen by the ignition light and seat belt warning light sometimes not coming on but the starter turning over.

Steering wheel off, indicator sw and wiper sw removed, two screws hold the ign barrel in. Once removed from the column, you'll see a small phillips head screw from behind that holds the elect part of the switch in, remove and withdwraw the electrical switch and replace with new. I have one only in stock presently if desired.

Cheers Matt, that was lovely. I'll let you know if I need that
Cheers.

Yarp, as Matt said it's generally the elec block on the back of the barrel that fails and not the barrel itself.

I know what part appears to be failing but for some reason (age probably!) I thought I'd have to go from below the column to get to the guts of the switch rather than taking the lever switches off

Is this of any help?

Hey Matt any luck finding that switch ?

No, I must have used/sold it. I've tried ordering from importers/wholesalers and no luck, need to try Vintage next on Monday or you can try yourself it may save the drive, You need the late type 1,2 &3, Golf and T3 's, electrical ign switch.
