type 3 auto problem

when changing from 2nd to 3rd, my auto 72 squareback motor doesn't back off like it does when changing from 1st to 2nd. gears change ok but it revs
like crazy. I have lived with it for a while. just wondering what the problem might be and if it was an easy or expensive fix?

same problem as tweety posted but different gear

they don't back off, instead they typically have both previous and next gear clutches engaged at the same time momentarily to provide a smooth
transition.
So something there is not right. The rest is beyond me. I like manual

Not sure if I understand your problem, it changes fine from 1-2 ok..and then 2-3 it changes ok (firm),, or does it slip (rev)??
If you mean it the engines revs dont drop (keep revving) on the 2-3rd change, it sounds like the D/R clutches are burnt, and you will lose reverse
soon too. Smell the oil to see if it smells burnt.
If so its time for a rebuild as the clutches don't usually burn out by them selves the auto has been to hot or there's a hydraulic issue, old
pistons, seals. ect.

Rest assured it isnt serious. I've been told it is oil starvation so assume its a pump issue or some other reason the oil is not getting to a place
it should be. You can try to adjust the vacuum solonoid but it wont help.
I purchased another one so that issue is now in my spare auto. Finally, moke sure your oil level is a little over full. Just under will see you lose
gearing uphills at low speed.
