Oil capacity
tweety - August 3rd, 2014 at 07:46 PM

Ok, been on the net and not easy finding this.

1/ Automatic transmission oil capacity for a type 3 transmission. I know its Dextron

2/ Oil capacity for final drive. I think its 80W/90

As these are the only VW bits on my trike cant justify buying a Haymes manual lol
Thanks

1. Converter (dry) = 6.00 L; (change) = 3.00 L. If still available (perhaps not now), Dex II should be slightly preferable to Dex III.
2. Final drive vol. should be 1.00 L , use 75W- or 80W-90, GL-5.

The "Best" (most detailed) write-up is in the "Bentley" type 3 manual. Haymes and SP/Gregory's are both different, but both not as extensive.

Thanks Ace76.

Lucky- purchased 4litres Dextron 11 today. And 80W-90 one litre. so good.

I'll have to ask the auto guy if he drained the torque converter. if he did, what do yuo do? take it out and fll it till it it drains in the vertical position? Or keep filling the auto trans when engine running until the torque converter fills up?? Assuming the TC gets filled from the auto trans?

Sorry, don't know refill procedure for dry auto. - you may need advice from an auto. expert (and find out if it has been emptied).
