Hi guys

I need to replace the bailey channels in my '76 beetle and want to put the best possible.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Are they the best or a mixture of German and other....

I have used both cip1 German kits and the wolfsburgwest kits and both are very usable. Tho I have found that the cip kits seems to be a lot tighter against your windows making them stiff to wind down and up. The Wolfsburg west ones seem to be a lot smoother and easier to wind down and still seal really well. My brother went to Clark rubber and got a length of Bailey channel that seems to of worked really well to but I have always just done a complete door seal kit.

The first 2 cars I did in the cip1 German kits and then I had a credit at das Resto and purchased a wolfsburgwest kit through them and I was so impressed with it The next car I got a wolfsburgwest seal kit again and that was for the snail... Hope that helps.

I had trouble with the cip ones. (67 beetle). Felt ones, with metal seam wrapped in rubber. Looked great .. But The were so tight the window would not budge.

I ended up finding some very good second hand ones from wreckers that fit much better. Off different cars, but it means I can wind the windows up and down and the only way you would know they were not original would be if you totally dismantled the door and window assemblies.

You might be able to do both doors for a couple of bucks...

Do you mean the bailey channel itself or the felt seal that sit's inside the bailey?

If just after quality seals then try C&C in the UK. Custom and Commercial. Their 'German Quality' range is spot on. Used em for my 59 Bug. With the better exchange rate at present and much more reasonable shipping costs then could be a viable option to the Yank suppliers. WW are one of the worst for more than doubling the overseas shipping cost.

As an aside, I know my 56 and 59 bailey channels are made from stainless save for the mounting brackets but wondered if VW had moved onto chromed steel for later models?

Psimitar, when I was using the term "bailey channel", I was just referring to the felt seal as I haven't pulled a door apart for many many years and don't really know what will need replacing.

My theory is to buy more parts than I may need so that I don't run into the old "wish I had order that bit/part" scenario.
