hey, i got a 1200 motor, its been converted. has the alternator, and still running 6v starter, my car never came with a battery. i want to know what one i need, or you can recommend. i rang repco today the guy said 'I dont know, bring in your old one, and we will match it' I said i didnt have one. and they hung up on me lol..

There are quite small 12V batteries, as in 12V type 3's. You need to CHECK the terminals are on the correct side, ie to match the position of the clamps. Some won't work -- despite fitting into the space. Also height may need to be checked. If the shop doesn't have one to fit, they should be able to order one.

ok ive got a din 53L mf. its the correct orientation and recessed terminals.

Recessed terminals is the way to go as well as a cover over the positive terminal.

Thanks heaps guys, got the battery and terminals today, soo close to getting this running, just gotto join some wires and fit the accelerator cable then fingers crossed :D

Good News

Don't forget to place something over the battery so when some one gets onto the rear seat on their knees and the seat springs hit the positive terminal....


that"s how many early Beetles went up in flames..
