Ok, lets try again, not sure if the pics will show but theres a small tab that moves when the indicators are activated, what that does I can't figure as nothing seems to happen when I push it, I think it is activated by the small rod like protrusion on the base of the steering wheel (after market). Also there is what seems to me to be excessive movement of the steering column within the column case / tube, there is a plastic piece on the shaft but that also seems to serve no purpose, any thoughts / advise welcome.

Well the pics didn't work, hope I explained it well enough

Don the little tab is the self cancel mechanism, when you turn the indicator on it comes out and is released by the piece on the bottom of the steering wheel as the wheel turns. There is a bush in the top of the tube which has a shim held in place by a spring which is often left out, this lets the shim move up out of the bearing giving lots of slop and the blinker usually doesn't cancel.

Email me the pic. Donn - I have a number of spare (broken) indicator mechanisms I use for parts - I may have what you need. My daughter Kaylee is up from Sydney this weekend, so she could drop it back on Sunday if that helps.

Hi Grumble, that's what I thought, but with it all exposed and the small tab operated by hand the indicator dosnt cancell. That bush, shim and spring you mentioned may be the problem, there is a plastic bush there but no spring or shim that I can see, the plastic bush dosnt reach as far as the bearing, I'd say there in lies the "slop" problem.
Jeff, I'll send the pics to you early tomorrow, maybe you can see the problem, thanks.
