1956 36HP beetle short steering arm tyrods
icebergstu - October 16th, 2014 at 03:41 PM

Hey, I've got a 56 Beetle basically stock and original.

The outer tyrods are shot.

The short drivers side steering arm has an inner and outer tyrod but the outer is not removable.

I can't seem to find one to buy anywhere online. Can anyone help me out with what I can do?

If you have an original 56 front end then the tie rod end ball joints are removable

Sounds like its a mid 60s front end DO you want original tie rod with removable ball joints ??

If your in Sydney call VVDS 9789-1777 they can help you out

where are you located

Original 56 short rod had both rod ends crimped in place. Easiest thing to do is buy a length of thick wall steel tub and have it tapped both ends for replacement rod ends. Only issue is finding engineer shop with a M14 LHD tap.

Other option is use an early 60's rod as pretty sure the same length but even if not shortening the RHD thread and re-tapping is pretty straightforward :)
