Ok, I have a 66 beetle and a 1500 engine. The motor needs to be rebuilt, my question is, what would be the best set up for it. What cam, pot and pitons, what push rods tubes and lifters, carbs, dizzy, looking at doing all the work myself and would be helpful to know what others have done or used.
First you need to pull down your engine to see if it is indeed rebuildable. With the age of these motors it could have a crack in the block or end float problems that may make the motor u/s. Then you can form a plan of attack. My2c
do you definitely want to stay single port?
I would like to go twin port, twin carbs. The block is good, very little end float. Motor ran sweet before I pulled it out. No unusual noises rattles or bangs. No oil leaks either.
