I have a 59 beetle ive been restoring
when these came out where were the door mirrors situated
I know people knock the door pin out and put mirrors on there but was wondering where they were when coming out of factory

From what I understand, there was no factory fitted mirrors in the 50's or even up until the mid 60's. So no mirrors were ever fitted unless someone asked the dealer to put pin fitted ones on. That is not factory fitted though.

Along with the Albert style mirrors the hinge ones were an optional extra.

Vintage VW in Sydney are the only mob I know of that have a tool able to remove the pins without the need for a press.

I say this cos trying to hammer them out only works if the hinges are removed from the doors. If in the door you bend the hell outta the frame.

As an apprentice in the panel shop of a VW dealer, in the early '60s, I fitted a few of those door-hinge mirrors....including my own.

Most DIY VW owners fitted clip-on type mirrors that attached to the drip rail...Wibroc, I think they were. A lot of them fell off !!
