Engine questions
grinderman - November 18th, 2014 at 08:47 PM

I have just fitted a recoed 1835 to my daughters kombi. It has been sitting on a bench for over 5 years but it was well lubed and turned over by hand regularly. We finally got to fit it and eventually got it running after a dodgy fuel pump was replaced. My question = what would cause the right manifold end to be really hot when the left one is cool ? We haven't put a timing light on the motor yet . It is also running a bit rough and backfires from the exhaust occasionally when revving. Could it be something blocked in the old pict 34? I have checked the tappets after initial start up.
Any advice is appreciated. Cheers
Greg

sounds like its running lean, inlet leak, sticky exhaust valve, leaking head could be a number of things

Turned out to be an air leak through the manifold with a new pair of boots and clamps fixing the problem. Purring nicely now.
Thanks to Custom VeeDub for over the phone diagnosis.
You were right on bugzla !
