Hi everyone!
I am hoping someone can help me.
I have a 1958 split kombi and I am almost finished wiring it all up except for the semaphores.
Just need some clarification on this. On all the wiring diagrams I have found they have the semaphores wired up to the indicator/turn signal switch.
My question is if they are wired up to the indicator/turn signal switch (which is wired up to the flasher unit) when you indicate left or right - will
the sempahore pop up and stay up or will it go up and down like it has the same effect of flashing?
If they pop up and stay up great - if not how do I wire them so when I indicate they stay up until the indicator is switched off?
I really appreciate and advise and insight into this.
Thanks.
Cameron
They will pop up n down as the indicator flashes.
I've designed a circuit that keeps them up and works using just the normal single flasher relay.
There is the second option of wiring 2 flasher relays instead of one and this will also allow the semaphore to stay up.
From a single flasher relay there is no normal way to make the semaphores work as they normally would and hence why I designed a circuit
Cameron, first sanity check, what voltage is the system in kombi? if its upgraded to 12volt are the semaphores rated at 12volt or are they original 6
volt units?
the semaphore has a switch built into it which doesnt make until the arm is almost fully extended and then the lamp is energised. It is possible to
modify it so that the arm solenoid and the lamp are energised separately but thats a fiddly job.
I think thats the best outcome, to have a semaphore arm that extends and then the lamp flashes. For safety that is. Too many drivers wouldnt know
what that orange lamp on the side of the car is.
Perhaps psimitar can post his circuit drawing.
Hi Uber Kafer
The whole kombi has been converted to 12 volts including the semaphores.
Cheers Cameron
Hi Psimitar,
Thanks for the info. I will give your circuit a go.
Cheers Cameron.
Do you mean the twin flasher relay or the circuit I designed?
Here's the link for the utube vid of the circuit doing it's thing Semaphore circuit
It's programmed for about a 1.5 second delay before it drops the semaphore arm.
I've not around to marketing the circuit yet as busy with a 56 Oval resto but anyway I'm rambling.
Let me know which you want. Dual flasher relay is just a wiring diagram whereas the circuit I've designed would be about $50 to cover the cost of
parts.
